HP Pavilion 500-119cb
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)
I bought a used i7 4770 off eBay, and it doesn't seem to work. When I install it, and start the computer, it turns on for a brief time, then immediately turns off, but I get no display either. The eBay seller refunded me, but he's convinced it's a functioning unit. He says they tested it before sending it and it worked. Is there something with my motherboard that doesn't like the new i7 4770? Like maybe some sort of block that won't allow it to start? Will BIOS update do anything?

Greeting Thornax22,

Welcome to the forum.

I am not an HP employee.

The specs for the Memphis-S motherboard (MB) can be reviewed here.

The 4770 is supported.

Did you install the 4770? Does the MB POST when the i3-4330 is installed in the socket?

There may be an HP BIOS update but I can't locate a 500-119cb PC. I found a 500-119c. This PC has the Memphis-S MB.

There is a BIOS update for the 500-119c. One fix updates the processor microcode.

Regards

Yes, the system posts with the i3 4330, and starts up fine. I know the 500-119cb can't be found, but that's what it says on the box I got from Costco four or five years ago. I'm just hoping it IS the same motherboard, because it looks exactly the same, even has the same letters in the middle. I guess I'll try the bios update.

HI,

There are two 500-119 models:

500-119c

500-119ea.

The 119ea has a JasminR MB The 119c has the Memphis MB.

It's definitely not the JasmineR, and it looks EXACTLY like the Memphis-S. The only thing I can do is try a bios update, or maybe buy a new motherboard.
