HP Pavilion Desktop PC TP01-1000a (2W831AV)
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have never updated a graphic card before and I read that this process is not universal, that all cards do not fit in all computers. I would rather not spend $500 on a card I couldn't use and I have no idea if these two are compatible.

Can someone help ?

@maxenswlfr,

That is affirmative. You want to be careful not to overtax your power supply -or rather, to underpower your graphics card.

For example, the aforementioned 500-watt power supply would be able to power graphics cards like these examples (and keeping compactness in mind for fit):

ASRock RX 6600 XT Challenger ITX 8GB GDDR6https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/asrock-rx-6600-xt-challenger-itx.b9188

PowerColor RX 5700 ITX 8GB GDDR6: https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/powercolor-rx-5700-itx.b7609

HP RTX 2060 OEM 6GB GDDR6: https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/hp-rtx-2060-oem.b8144

MSI RTX 2060 SUPER AERO ITX 8GB GDDR6: https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/msi-rtx-2060-super-aero-itx.b7169

GIGABYTE GTX 1070 Mini ITX OC 8GB GDDR5: https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/gigabyte-gtx-1070-mini-itx-oc.b3673

ZOTAC GTX 1070 Ti Mini 8GB GDDR5: https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/zotac-gtx-1070-ti-mini.b5004

You get the idea.

Hope this was helpful.

Your HP Pavilion Desktop PC TP01-1000a (2W831AV) according to: https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-pavilion-desktop-pc-tp01-1000a/37921117/model/2100019014, is fitted with the Erica3 motherboard with SSID: 87D6, which has one PCI Express Gen 3 x16 graphics slot and is powered with a 310-watt power supply.

If you don't want to change your power supply, the HP Nvidia GTX 1650 4GB (HP p/n: L34260-001) would be one of your best picks.  You can get one via eBay for $180: https://www.ebay.com/itm/165427449267?epid=5043479425&hash=item26843e8db3%3Ag%3A2mkAAOSw2oJiU302&amd....

Your Erica mother board is also compatible with this 500-watt power supply (HP p/n: L05757-800), which comes with one 6+2-pin PCIe + one 6-pin PCIe power cable.  You can get one via eBay for $190: https://www.ebay.com/itm/175365693317?hash=item28d49c1f85%3Ag%3A338AAOSwo5Zi4ku3&amdata=enc%3AAQAHAA...

With this 500-watt power supply you could pick a graphics card like this:

HP Nvidia RTX 3060 12GB (HP p/n: M41998-002) for $300: https://www.ebay.com/itm/325308169694?hash=item4bbde0bdde%3Ag%3Afv0AAOSwDrNi%7EO80&amdata=enc%3AAQAH...

Or this one: HP Nvidia RTX 3060 TI 8GB GDDR6 (HP p/n: M31640-001) for $320: https://www.ebay.com/itm/304720654933?hash=item46f2c43255%3Ag%3AywIAAOSwHKljhnDQ&amdata=enc%3AAQAHAA...

Hope this was helpful.

Thank you for the answer and for the multiple options. If I understand correctly, the Radeon 6700 requires a 600w power supply so it is out of my reach but anything compatible with 500w is good if I buy the corresponding power supply ?
