Dear all

does anybody know, is it possible to put a new MB to HP ENVY Desktop - 795-0900?

New small desktops like Pavilion or OmniDesk looks very similar, but I am not sure that a MB with new socket will fit the old case.

The goal - to switch to the new socket.

Hi @AntonMih,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your desktop!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Upgrading the motherboard (MB) in your HP ENVY Desktop 795-0900 can be a great way to get new features and performance improvements. However, there are several factors to consider to ensure compatibility and a smooth upgrade process.

Form Factor Compatibility:

  • Make sure the new motherboard fits the form factor of your current HP ENVY 795-0900 case. Most HP ENVY desktops use standard form factors like ATX, microATX, or mini-ITX. Verify the form factor of both the current and new motherboard.

Power Supply Compatibility:

  • Check if your current power supply unit (PSU) provides adequate power and has the necessary connectors for the new motherboard. A new motherboard might require different power connectors.

Rear I/O Shield:

  • Ensure that the rear I/O shield of the new motherboard fits the cutouts in the HP ENVY 795-0900 case. Each motherboard typically comes with its own I/O shield, which must match the case's rear panel layout.

Mounting Points:

  • Verify that the standoff positions in the case align with the mounting holes of the new motherboard. In some cases, you might need to adjust or add standoffs.

Front Panel Connectors:

  • Confirm that the front panel connectors for power button, LEDs, USB, audio, etc., are compatible with the new motherboard. This can sometimes require manual mapping of pinouts.

Cooling Solution:

  • Check if the existing cooling solution (CPU cooler, case fans) is compatible and sufficient for the new motherboard and CPU.

Steps to Replace the Motherboard

  • Select a compatible motherboard that fits your needs and budget. Ensure it supports the desired CPU socket and other features you require (e.g., RAM slots, PCIe slots).

Prepare Tools:

  • Gather necessary tools such as screwdrivers, thermal paste, an antistatic wrist strap, and cable ties.

Backup Data:

  • Before starting any hardware changes, back up important data from your system.

Disassemble Current Setup:

  • Power down and unplug your desktop.
  • Open the case and carefully remove components connected to the current motherboard (GPU, RAM, storage drives, etc.).
  • Disconnect all power and data cables.

Remove Old Motherboard:

  • Unscrew and carefully remove the old motherboard from the case.

Install New Motherboard:

  • Place the new motherboard into the case, aligning it with standoffs and the I/O shield.
  • Secure the motherboard with screws.
  • Reconnect power supply cables, front panel connectors, and other components (CPU, RAM, GPU, storage drives, etc.).

Reapply Thermal Paste:

  • If reusing the old CPU cooler, clean off the old thermal paste and apply a fresh layer before reinstalling it.

Reassemble and Test:

  • Double-check all connections.
  • Close the case and reconnect to power.
  • Power on the system and enter the BIOS to configure initial settings and ensure all components are recognized.

I hope this helps.
