OMEN Laptop - 15-ek0007nt

Have the hp omen ek0007nt model. There is no problem with my device, but I am wondering if it is possible to replace the motherboard of the model EK1015NT or other suitable device released in the same year with the motherboard of my own device. Also, are there spare parts for this in the service? Sorry for the machine translation.

I checked those specs here...

https://support.hp.com/ca-en/document/c06970548

That shows a Core i7 10th generation CPU.  That is a high end and recent model.  It should not be slow.

What are you trying to do?

I highly suspect you have crapware installed.

Whenever a client buy a retail model (big box store), and complains it is slow, I find it much faster to backup any data, wipe the drive and reinstall the latest Windows, then use CCleaner, com to remove the crapware (Spotify, Solitaire, XBox, Reality Portal, etc.) and the systems are always much faster.

Another options is your model may have a special SKU with a slow spinning drive, I doubt that as the spec show nVME drive

thanks for the answer .  Yes my device is quite powerful , at least it does enough for me . But ım a man looking for adventure .

This path seemed quite logical rather than buying a new model in the future.

I'm been working with computers with the IBM XT and have fixed, upgraded and reformatted many thousands of PCs (and Macs).

While I have added many SSDs, extra ram, graphics cards, I never found it made sense to upgrade a motherboard.

A newer motherboard would require completely different components (DDR4->DDR5, nVME gen4 -> gen5, USB 3->3.2, etc) so one would have to get new CPU, new RAM, new graphics, etc.

You won't be able to use the existing components on the motherboard.  If you can, why even bother changing motherboards in the first place.

Don't believe marketing people who say, 'Oh, your computer is 3-4 years old, you should upgrade', that is complete BS.

Unless you are a serious (and professional) engineer and need autocad, a photographer with Photoshop who edits 100M+ images with 20-50 layers, a videographer who render 4k (or higher) video edits, 99% of users are fine with a 5-8 year old PC.

My main PC is an HP core i5-6th gen with 24G ram and several SSD (the older/slower 2.5" type) and I can run anything perfectly fine:  Photoshop 2024, Hyper-V with several VM, etc.  While I have better/newer PCs, I don't bother migrating.

I use my better PC to test out new apps.

Keep your existing system as is and save up for a 14th gen mini pc, get a gen5 nVME drive (12,800Mb/sec), DDR5 etc.

I agree with you ,I thought about it this way, I already have 16GB RAM and 1TB SSD and my monitor is 144hz. The new cases of the device are almost the same , Omen series seems to be more expensive than Victus series due to the case quality. So, I thought it would be more logical to replace the existing case and the hardware inside it rather than buying a new RTX 4050, i5 13500h device. 3070 will be more than enough for games and the processor will also be more than enough for my use. This would not make much sense if there would be a small price difference, but frankly it made sense if a serious profit was made. I don't have a problem with using the latest technology. I can also sell or recycle the old motherboard. because it already works smoothly. Don't you think that would make sense?

Firstly, I am not a gamer so I can't comment much on graphics cards, but I will state a few facts:

- you won't get much for any used computer hardware.  I know as I get older stuff when clients get new computers.  They don't need to upgrade, but it is usually when they blow a hard drive and get my estimate to add a new disk, reformat, recover data configure setting (email, printers, scanners, etc.).  They mostly decide, get me a new computer with a new warranty.

- In almost all cases, they don't notice much speed improvement with the new computers.  They do like that I get them tiny desktops (HP mini or the even smaller Intel NUC)

- unless you have a larger monitor, most people won't notice a difference between an dedicated graphics card and on board graphics.  Again, I am not a gamer, but for Autocad, Photoshop, Video editing, RAM/CPU make bigger impact

- things always sound simpler and cheap, that is rarely the case, complications will arise 🙂

- a current Intel NUC 13 Pro (with on board graphics) will outperform a dedicated graphics card from a few years ago.

Most important fact...

Whatever you buy will be outdated by the time you set it up.  There will always be a better, fast, etc model out there:)

I just sold a few HP Fury with RTX A2000 / 8G laptop and while on paper, these should blow the competitor away, for day to day use, I don't notice any difference.

If I was a gamer, I'd get a dedicated gaming console as they would be much cheaper too.

I forgot to add why people won't pay anything:

- economy is tough on people, it always is.  50% of people can't come up with $1000 if their roof leaked and needed repairs 😞

- people want things for free.  I give away literally tons of old stuff on FreeCycle and when they pick it up, they point to other things in my garage (bikes, sports equipment) and ask, "can I have that too", most don't even say thanks for what I gave them

- I have two old MacBook Air model, from 2012, but I installed Sonoma on them (because I can) and they run perfectly.  I was asking $175 Cdn (about $125 US) and people complain, 'that is too old', when I ask, 'what will you do with it'. they reply, 'watch video, surf web, email'  These are PERFECT for that, but no one wants to give me $50 for them.  I can sell the adapter charger for that.  I'll donate them to a charity

- people think never is better and don't want anything more than 1-2 year old and for 10% or less than the cost of a new one.

Don't count on getting $1 for anything used.  Be careful, they will nag you for free support.  If you meet them in a public place (so they won't ring your doorbell and complain / ask refund), 2/3 of the time they never show up,

Thanks for your answers. Actually, my issue is not exactly money.I have money. It was just an idea that made sense, as I said in my first message, I'm looking for adventure 😄 It would probably be more logical and profitable to work at work rather than deal with this One of the main reasons why I ask this is that there are usually spare motherboards available in authorized services, and I know that when a device breaks down, sometimes the motherboard is replaced. So why should we buy a new computer when the old computer is solid? 😄 If the motherboard fits, it would be much more logical to replace it.I probably won't be able to do this and I will buy a higher device in the future 😕 This is sad because I was a little enthusiastic about this, frankly.
