Hello
I am trying to put a gpu into my HP envy pc but I don't have a powerful enough power supply. I've seen some people selling some different power supplies and wanted to know if any of them would work with my pc.
It is a baker motherboard and some of the PSUS I've seen are
849655-001 500 W
L76557-001 400 W
I would prefer 400 W and does it NEED to be an hp power supply or does it just depend on the connectors?

Based on this HP power supply spreadsheet (Power Supply Cross Reference for specific models - HP Support Community - 7483923), there's a 500 watt power supply available for your PC. HP p/n: L05757-800 or the 400 watt power supply you prefer: HP p/n: L04618-800.
The 500 watt power supply is challenging to get (on backorder via HP and other companies), but can be purchased around $169 here: L05757-800 original HP Desktop-PC power supply 500 Watt - sparepartworld.com or here: L05757-800 - Hewlett-Packard (HP) - Power Supply PSU 500W - Parts-HQ Replacement Parts.
The 400 watt power supply is a lot easier to purchase, and cheaper -starting at $123 via eBay for example, see: hp l04618-800: Search Result | eBay or for $130 via Amazon: New Genuine PS for HP Pavilion Gaming 790-0020 GNRC PSU SFF Entl FR 400W Power Supply L04618-800 : E....
Lest I forget to mention it, there is another compatible HP 400 watt power supply for your TE01-xxxx motherboard: L69242-800. It so happens that HP has it in stock for $167: HP Parts Store - HP Computer Parts - HP Printer Parts - Compaq Parts. Or for just $76 (including shipping) directly from the PRC -but it may take a month before it shows up on your doorstep, here: For TE01 Pavilion TG01 TP01 Internal PSU Power Supply 400W L69242-800 L76557-001 | eBay.
Yes, summarizing, you do need a proprietary HP power supply because of the uniquely designed power connections HP chose to engineer in many of their computers. Unless you want to wander off the reservation, and then we can talk about syncing aka daisy-chaining a dedicated secondary power supply for your GPU. But it's easier and less expensive to think HP power supplies first.
Hope this helps.
