Hello everybody.

I bought an HP elitedesk 800 G5 sff i7-9700 to build a batocera emulator system.

I also bought a gigabyte 4060 GPU oc pow profile, but unlike the rtx a2000, the 4060 needs an 8-pin connector, and my HP's psu is 250w, so I bought a 500w psu model: L77487-003 . What I noticed was that in the p2 connector on my original psu, there are 7 pins, and the new one has only 6, the problem is that all the wires on the new psu are black, but I think that if it follows the pattern of my original psu , this missing wire would be the purple wire.

I installed the new psu and tried to turn on the PC and all I get are 3 long beeps and 4 short beeps. (lights flash 3 times long red and 4 times short white). I looked on the HP technical support website and it says that this is a problem with the PSU. I just wanted to make sure if this wire (purple) from the p2 connector that the new PSU doesn't have makes any difference. I have 30 days to return the PSU to the seller. thanks

@maicoalvim,

Welcome to our peer-to-peer HP Community Forum!

The 500-watt p/n: L77487-003 all-black power supply should work great in an HP EliteDesk 800 G5 SFF, as shown here in my (ongoing) HP EliteDesk 800 G5 SFF upgrade project: Solved: Upgrading HP EliteDesk 800 G5 SFF Part II - Page 6 - HP Support Community - 8720291 (see page 6).

Hope this was helpful.

Kind Regards,

Thanks for your quick reply. So does that mean I have a defective PSU?

@maicoalvim,

Must be.  Both my experience as well as @Friddle's showed that this 500-watt power supply should work just fine.

I will send a message to the seller requesting an exchange of the PSU. As soon as I have the final result I will come back here and tell you if it is resolved. Thank you again

Hello. I would like to confirm with you about the model of your psu and your PC. Mine is an HP ELITEDESK 800 G5 SFF and PSU model L77487-003. The store's technical support called me today and I talked to the guy and he told me that the psu is working because they test before sending the item and that my PC is incompatible with this psu.

@maicoalvim,

Balderdash.  The Seller is grossly mistaken.  I can personally vouch for that the 500-watt power supply, part number: L77487-003 is indeed compatible with an HP EliteDesk 800 G5 SFF.

I would consider initiating a return to Seller/Sender to get your money back, and start again, this time from a different Seller who also allows for returns.
