DKinsman1234, welcome to the forum.
Here are the processor upgrades that are supported by the motherboard and HP:
TDP: Up to 88 W
- Socket type: LGA 1150 (Socket-H3)
- Motherboard supports the following processor upgrades:ProcessorTDPIntegrated GraphicsIntel Celeron G1840 (Haswell) 2.8 GHz Dual Core53 WIntel HD Graphics (GT1)Intel Celeron G1850 (Haswell) 2.9 GHz Dual Core53 WIntel HD Graphics (GT1)Intel Pentium G3250 (Haswell) 3.2 GHz Dual Core53 WIntel HD Graphics (GT1)Intel Pentium G3260 (Haswell) 3.3 GHz Dual Core53 WIntel HD GraphicsIntel Pentium G3450 (Haswell) 3.4 GHz Dual Core53 WIntel HD Graphics (GT1)Intel Pentium G3460 (Haswell) 3.5 GHz Dual Core53 WGT1Intel Pentium G3470 (Haswell) 3.6 GHz Dual Core53 WIntel HD GraphicsIntel Core i3-4150 (Haswell) 3.5 GHz Dual Core54 WIntel HD Graphics 4400 (GT2)Intel Core i3-4160 (Haswell) 3.5 GHz Dual Core54 WIntel HD Graphics 4400 (GT2)Intel Core i3-4170 (Haswell) 3.7 GHz Dual Core54 WIntel HD Graphics 4400Intel Core i3-4350 (Haswell) 3.6 GHz Dual Core54 WIntel HD Graphics 4600 (GT2)Intel Core i3-4360 (Haswell) 3.7 GHz Dual Core54 WIntel HD Graphics 4600 (GT2)Intel Core i3-4370 (Haswell) 3.8 GHz Dual Core54 WGT2Intel Core i5-4460 (Haswell) 3.4 GHz Quad Core84 WIntel HD Graphics 4600 (GT2)Intel Core i5-4460S (Haswell) 3.1 GHz Quad Core84 WIntel HD Graphics 4600 (GT2)Intel Core i5-4460T (Haswell) 1.9 GHz Quad Core35 WIntel HD Graphics 4600 (GT2)Intel Core i5-4590 (Haswell) 3.3 GHz Quad Core84 WIntel HD Graphics 4600 (GT2)Intel Core i5-4690 (Haswell) 3.5 GHz Quad Core84 WIntel HD Graphics 4600 (GT2)Intel Core i5-4690K (Haswell) 3.5 GHz Quad Core88 WGT2Intel Core i7-4790 (Haswell) 3.6 GHz Quad Core84 WIntel HD Graphics 4600 (GT2)Intel Core i7-4790S (Haswell) 3.2 GHz Quad Core65 WIntel HD Graphics 4600 (GT2)Intel Core i7-4790T (Haswell) 2.7 GHz Quad Core45 WIntel HD Graphics 4600 (GT2)
As you can see, the i7-4790K is not listed. However, with that said, this doesn't mean that it won't work, but has not been tested to make certain it is compatible. You would be responsible if I didn't work.
Personally, I have my doubts that you would see much performance increase with the K. It denotes that the processor can be overclocked and since the K versions have not been tested for the motherboard, I doubt if the UEFI/BIOS has the settings to allow it to be overclocked. You would be spending money for an option that you couldn't use. Any of the i7 (Quad Core) processors would be a major improvement over the i3 (Dual Core) that came installed from the factory.
