OMEN by HP 40L Gaming Desktop PC GT21-0000a (3G5Z0AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Hi, my OMEN 40L (AMD Ryzen 5800x) currently has the stock 2x8Gb of HyperX Fury RAM. I would like to add 2 additional sticks of 8Gb RAM bringing the total to 32Gb. I currently run the RAM with the turbo ON at 3733Mhz (set in the Omen gaming hub). I've looked everywhere but cannot find the same HyperX Fury RAM, but have found Kingston Fury Beast DDR4-3733/PC4-29800 CL19 (#KF437C19BBAK2/16)  which has the same specs.

Has anyone here tried this memory in their Omen (or any other RAM) and managed to run it at 3733Mhz? I've read that most people adding RAM to the OMEN only manage to run it at 3200Mhz.

@ClydeTower1,

I see. Well, even at 2 x $45 + $10 shipping this RAM is still reasonably priced, given supply & demand.  The HP sticks don't need to have closely related serial numbers, as long as they are both HP37D4U1S8ME-8XR RAM sticks.

Not sure how much warranty you have left on your rig, but adding the HP37D4U1S8ME-8XR RAM to your existing KF3733C19D4/8G appears to work great as I showed you, and in my opinion adjusting RAM speed through your XMP profile carries a very low risk of things going sideways:

@ClydeTower1,

Welcome to our HP User Forum!

Your OMEN By HP 40L Gaming Desktop PC GT21-0000a (3G5Z0AV) supports up to PC4-29800 (DDR4-3733) with an AMD Ryzen 7 5800X with a HanaA motherboard (SSID: 8949).

Looking at Omen 40L User benchmarks in UserBenchMark [dot] com, here is a User who used alternating 4 x 8GB RAM sticks (Kingston KF3733C19D4/8GX + HP37D4U1S8MR-8XR + KF3733C19D4/8GX + HP37D4U1S8MR-8XR) all running at 3733 MHz: https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/53960999.

You can purchase the HP37D4U1S8ME-8XR RAM here, for example: https://www.ebay.com/p/5048354641?iid=134307528541.

One of the customers commented on this RAM, quote: "It's the stock ram for all the HP Omen 25-45L series computers. It is a great value compared to what HP charges. It's plug and play, no bios to play with and it works as good as new."

Hope this was helpful.

Hi, thanks for your response.

Ideally, the HP HyperX Fury RAM (#HP37D4U1S8ME) would probably insure the best compatibility for running the 4 sticks at 3733Mhz, however the listings on Ebay are for only 1 stick, not for a matched pair of 2x8Gb... not sure how that would work.

The only RAM I've found in stock sold as a matched pair of 2x8Gb that has the same specs is Kingston Fury Beast (#KF437C19BBAK2/16). I've seen others use this specific RAM but apparently are only able to run it at 3200 in the OMEN.

@ClydeTower1,

The eBay link I referenced says, quote: "(2) Kingston HyperX Fury 16GB (2x 8GB) DDR4 PC4-25600 HP37D4U1S8ME-8XR Memory" -emphasis added.  I read this that these RAM sticks are sold as a pair.

Unfortunately, its only 1 stick... if you scroll down you'll see its only 1 x 8Gb module. I've asked the seller to confirm, I will await his response. I've seen other similar ads for 1x8 Gb module.

Meanwhile I contacted HP support to ask them where I could get compatible RAM that will run @ 3733Mhz. The only approved RAM is discontinued!!.. and they can't recommend 3rd party RAM. Plus, if you add 2 extra RAM modules, thus running 4 modules, you won't be able to run the RAM at 3733Mhz through the gaming hub (even with HP approved RAM). You have to configure them through the bios with XMP profile, which by doing so will nullify the warranty.

Classic HP catch 22.
