Hi, I am now getting a warning pop-up highlighting that my SSD is in ''Bad Condition'' with only a small amount of status left: 3%.   I have read through your kind advice and see that it is possible to replace like for like.  I downloaded the CrystalDiskInfo and it came back with:  SK hynix BC501 HFM256GDJTNG-8310A : 256.0 GB

I can find these SSD drives on places like ebay, the cheaper versions are being sold as ''Used''.

Could you suggest a larger storage option - 500GB or even 1 TB that will fit into my old computer?

Will I need to create a reboot USB to get it all going again?

Pete

Hi, Pete:

This is the 1 TB drive I recommend for your notebook:

Samsung 980 1 TB PCIe 3.0 (up to 3.500 MB/s) NVMe M.2 Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) (MZ-V8V1T0BW)...

If the drive still works and you want to clone your current hard drive's contents to the new one, you can purchase a USB 3/USB-C to NVMe enclosure and clone the current drives contents with the Samsung Magician software.

SSK Aluminum M.2 NVME SATA SSD Enclosure Adapter, USB 3.2 Gen 2 (10 Gbps) to NVME PCI-E SATA M-Key/(...

Samsung Magician Software Download | Samsung Semiconductor Global

If you want to start with a fresh install of W11, you can make a bootable USB W11 installation flash drive with the Media creation tool from the link below (2nd option).

Download Windows 11

You won't need the Windows product key as it is encrypted in your notebook's BIOS.

Windows will find the key and install the version of W11 your notebook is running now.

After W11 has completed installing, you can install the drivers and available software from your notebook's support page if any are needed.

Paul, everything went to plan, the SSD and the equipment used to copy as you suggested.

I have one further query, more to do with the HP PC Hardware Diagnostic UEFI tests to check if everything was now in working order.
I keep getting a 'Warning' not 'Failed' alert on one area:

Hard Driver / SSD / Short DST Check   with the WARNING alert after it.     I don't know if this is standard for what I did and probably because the computer is now relatively old I can't download the most modern version of HP PC Hardware Diagnostic UEFI.  Instead it tells me it is not able to do this and goes for turning on the computer with the ESC held with the following F2.  This is how I found the warning.   If you have any thoughts on this I would appreciate it.  Pete

Hi, Pete:

Unfortunately, I wouldn't know the answer to your question and recommend that you start a new topic on that.

I never used the HP PC Hardware Diagnostic UEFI tests before.

Once upon a time I got a notification to update the software, and it wouldn't let me update it.

So, at that point I decided to never use it again.

Cheers,

Paul
