Elitedesk 705 g1
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I looked up compatible cpu's for this pc and the search i did all say the elite desk can use the amd athlon x4 860k but when i put it in there the computer sits there doing nothing but run the fan really fast. Is there something I'm missing like installing a new bios?

Here is a listing of the AMD Athlon x4 860k showing if it can replace the AMD A10 PRO-7850B which is supported on the PC.

https://www.cpu-upgrade.com/CPUs/AMD/A10-Series/A10_PRO-7850B.html

I wonder what the benefit would be, considering the info in the chart, even if it did work.

BTW: here is the latest BIOS for that PC

https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/swdetails/hp-elitedesk-705-g1-small-form-factor-pc/...

It states - Adds support to latest Microcode for Kaveri and Richland CPU.

It would be great if it had an A10 in it already but it doesn't, it has an A6 so i do need the upgrade. I would have gone with an A10 but they are much more pricy then the x4 and you can't buy either one of them new anymore, i checked they don't make them anymore. But thank you for the info, maybe the processor is bad.
