I am trying to figure out what PSU i am able to upgrade to, the space in my Envy is not big enough for the new standard PSU's. I have recently purchased a graphics card that requires an 8 slot PCIe connection whereas the current PSU (PCA 246) only has a 6 slot PCIe. I would like to know if there are any PSU's I can upgrade to that would both fit inside my case and also either have and 8 slot PCIe connection or have a 6 slot PCIe connection and a 2 slot PCIe connection. Thankyou for any help you are able to give on this matter. The graphics card in question in a RTX 3050, with recommended power of 450W, The PCA 246 is a 460W psu with connections as follows:
(1) 24-Pin ATX Connector
(1) 4-Pin 12V Connector
(1) 6-Pin PCI-E Connector
(6) SATA Connectors

@dob_z,

Welcome to our HP User Forum!

Since your PCA 246 PSU satisfies the minimum power requirements of the RTX 3050, I would go with this this power solution for your RTX 3050 as shown below.  I have used this particular power setup in the past with a similar GPU (before I upgraded to a higher capacity ATX power supply), and it worked well:

Here are purchase examples you can get online:

Dual PCIe 6-pin Female to PCI3 8-pin Male GPU Power Adapter Cablehttps://www.amazon.com/Female-TeamProfitcom-Adapter-Braided-Sleeved/dp/B07V4GGS43/ref=asc_df_B07V4GG...

Dual SATA 15-pin to PCIe 6-pin Power Adapter Cablehttps://www.amazon.com/Power-Express-Video-Cable-Adapter/dp/B007Y91B80/ref=sr_1_3?crid=3KVUSGV4ETNYJ...

SATA 15-pin Y-Splitter Cableshttps://www.amazon.com/Benfei-Power-Y-Splitter-Cable-Inches/dp/B07ML447FG/ref=sr_1_4?crid=1NCIURIU2C...

Thankyou very much for your response NonSequitur777.

I am going to take your advice and go with the cable option, but just in case, do you have any recommendations for a higher spec PSU that would be compatible with/fit in my pc?

@dob_z,

Yes I do.  Your HP ENVY H8-1485ea Desktop PC (C3T70EA) as per: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03513449, is fitted with the IPMMB-FM (Formosa) motherboard which is ATX 24-pin power-enabled, which means any ATX power supply would work in your desktop.

Given my own experiences, I would not go below a 750 watt power supply, and I highly recommend to spend a little more for a fully-modular model. The advantage of a fully-modular is that you only have to plug in the power cables you need, which makes cable-management a breeze.

So, here are three examples you should take a look at -make sure that the dimension make it a fit inside your case:

Dimensions: 100 x 125 x 63.5 mm

https://www.amazon.com/CORSAIR-Platinum-Certified-Modular-Renewed/dp/B07WV59FHQ/ref=psdc_1161760_t2_...

Dimensions: 100 x 125 x 63.5 mm

https://www.amazon.com/EVGA-Supernova-Modular-Warranty-123-GM-0750-X1/dp/B0939VN9QT/ref=sr_1_1?crid=...

Dimensions: 99.8 x 125 x 63 mm

Hope this was helpful.
