Hi all
I have upgraded my Omen 880-181 nf with:
Asus RM850X PSU
Prime rtx4070 OC Super
Crucial 16 Go @3200 MHz x4= 64 Go
2 fans from Noctua.
Every thing works well , only the RTX can not perform @ 100 %, because the PCIe x16 physical slots (Gen 3.0),has each slot with x8 bus lanes. I didn't see this before. So now I want to change the motherboard and the CPU. Probably I have to change the CPU cooling system too.
I project to upgrade with:
Motherboard: ASUS PRIME Z790-P DDR4
CPU: Intel Core i7-13700K
Cooling: AIO cooling :Cooler Master MasterLiquid ML120L RGB V2 This one has TDP of 180W. I don't know if this is enough for the CPU
I would like to have a 240 mm cooling unit, but I don't know if this could fit in the case.
It would be great if you could give me some comments or suggestions.
Thanks
take care

Ours is an HP Community forum, and specifically discussing non-HP motherboards is rather left to other non-HP discussion forums.
That being said, I do have some comments and suggestions for you.
Your OMEN by HP 880-181nf as fitted with the Tampa2 motherboard (SSID: 8437) is a highly upgradeable gaming platform and can be upgraded up to an i9-9900K or i9-9900KF, and, if money is a secondary consideration, even the mighty (but hot-running) i9-9900KS, which requires/deserves a CPU heatsink upgrade.
I seriously doubt that your RTX 4070 OC Super is somehow bottlenecked by PCIe Gen3 issues, as, for example, this User's rig shows no such issues whatsoever with an RTX 4070 Ti, as it is performing just fine -even when paired with just an i7-8700 and 2 x 8GB of RAM:
Perhaps you want to experiment with the Asus Tweak III GPU Tuning Tool: https://www.asus.com/campaign/GPU-Tweak-III/, in order to get (much) better graphics card performance.
Worked for me:
Also, lest I forget, your primary/secondary drives matter a lot too, since GPU performance relies, in part, on rapid I/O data exchanges between it and your drive(s). Make sure you got quality higher-end drive(s).

You are way ahead with your BIOS update compared with other Omen 880-1xxx Users who run i9-9900K processors, as some of them use an earlier BIOS version (BIOS Date 20201023).
The Samsung 860 EVO, launched in January 2018, has been officially discontinued by Samsung.
Your Samsung 870 EVO was introduced in January 2021, offering improved performance and efficiency.
While the 860 EVO remains a reliable SATA SSD, the 870 EVO provides enhancements in speed and endurance, making it a more suitable choice for current applications.
