can i add more memory than what it has= 4gb in 2 slots.
runs slow, It is a year 2011 model
should i buy a new one if it would cost same to upgrade it?

Your information is helpful. According to HP Parts Surfer,. your correct, it has 2x2GB modules. The max upgrade would be to replace with 2x4GB modules

A laboring system means either CPU speed and or RAM. Less than $35 RAM is easier to install than unboxing a $600+ unit.
A simple test... go to Task Manager and then the Performance tab. With no programs loaded, your Idle state should be less than 5% CPU, and 15-20% RAM. Load 2 programs, like you browser (Firefox, or Edge) and another like Word, Apache Open Office. Then look at the Performance percentages. If you system is struggling. you will see the numbers.
