I have an HP Pavilion desktop from 2018 with a main circuit board HP 2B2C 1.01 with an Intel 3.20 gh core I5-4460 4 core and wonder if I can upgrade this to a newer Intel or AMD processor to accommodate windows 11?
Thanks for your help,
Wayne

With luck, you may be able to use Intel Gen 5 processors. No other option to upgrade to higher than Gen 5 processor.
People are talking about few tricks to force lower processor to install Windows 11. I would no do that, what for ?
You still can run Windows 10 few more years Microsoft may change their mind and let Windows 11 to support older processors. Still millions and millions of machines out there. At least 5 laptops/notebooks in my house including 2 Surface machines from Microsoft.
Regards.

Make sure that when you swap out to the I7, if you plan to do so, that it is within the same power consumption or less of your i-5 for 2 reasons.
1- so you know that your power supply can still accommodate the processor upgrade.
2- to stay within thermal cooling the heat sink was rated for.
Personally, I tend to upgrade i3, and i5's to lower watt consumption i7 cpu's so that I can use higher watt GPU's. Even though it requires lower clock frequency to achieve the lower wattage, typically the additional cores and threads with i7's will over compensate for the loss in clock speed, vs i3's and i5's with higher frequency clock speeds.

Excuse my ignorance. Is that list of processors applicable to my HP Pavilion 500 119ea? My current processor is
AMD A10-6700 APU with Radeon(tm) HD Graphics but the Windows checker says this is not suitable for Windows 11

Thanks Banhein, much appreciated. I also have a Surface Pro 7 with which I have participated in the Windows Insider , HP Spectre and a couple of desktops. Definitely willing to play around with the HP Desktop so will check the compatibility of the list of processors. If not will consider a new mother board and processor. Any thoughts on AMD vs Intel in latest specs?
Thanks again.

Hi, @wwoodman
Since you are interested in installing W11, there is a simple registry edit you can make to upgrade your PC as is to W11...
How to Bypass TPM and CPU Requirements for Windows 11 Upgrade on Unsupported PC - HELLPC
You just have to accept the agreement that comes up during the upgrade process about your PC not meeting the requirements, etc., etc..
My PC got all of the W11 updates.
However, I don't know how long that will continue, or what will happen when the new build of W11 comes out next year in October.

You're very welcome, Wayne.
I'm surprised that entry didn't work because it is supposed to bypass the TPM check.
The only other suggestion I can offer, would be to also make these registry changes...look under the 'Another Workaround to Bypass Windows 11 Requirements and Install it on Unsupported Hardware' section.
