Microsoft Windows 11

Hi. I want to upgrade my HP Pavilion All-in-One - 24-xa1009

https://support.hp.com/ca-en/document/c06330171#AbT0

with a new m.2 ssd. I currently have a 5200RPM 2TB harddrive.

It appears my motherboard is an HP 85BA.

I have one m.2 slot available.  the HP website describes my expansion slot as One M.2 socket 3, 2280 type for SSD (PCIe x2 or SATA x1)

Is there a limit to what size of capacity I can use?

I believe my read/write speed will have some sort of limit. What limit should i expect?

Can I use a gen3 m.2? gen4?

Hi,

You should be able to get a 2280 NVME PCIe x4 M.2 drive.

You will get about half the rated speed because the MB M.2 socket is limited to x2 speed instead of x4 speed.

Hi,

@NewUser_M2

You want a Gen 3 x4 NVME drive. A Gen 4 x4 should be backwards compatible but the MB is limited to Gen 3 at x2 data throughput.
