Hi i want to upgrade to q9650 or q6600 and i have hp compaq dc7900 sff (energy star)
and i want to know if the upgrade will work and i want to know if i can change psu
to 400w psu and thanks 🙂

Below is the link to the quickspecs for the dc7900.
The supported processors can be found on page 9.

The Q6600 will not work, but the Q9650 will.
You cannot change the power supply. It is proprietary to HP and they don't make a better one for the SFF.
The Q9650 will draw 30 watts more than a core 2 processor such as the E8400, so I would not plan on adding a video card, etc, unless you install a low powered vido card such as a GT 610 or HD 6450.

For PSU, you need to check the physical size and connectors to make sure new PSU can connect to others.

Yes, it should work with a GT 610 and a 240W P/S but it will be pushing the limit.
Use this handy power supply calculator to see what wattage power supply is recommended based on the hardware you plan to install.
The basic tab should be good enough to input the data.
