Try a different USB flash drive?

I looked in the file contents of the DOS flash folder and they look OK to me.

It seems it's not regognizing the usb port in setup mode as I get the same message if it the port or not I guess the outher opion is to write to a cd?

HP Recommended

Yes, while I have never done it that way before, you can burn the contents of the DOS flash folder to a CD, and then select the CD for the PC to read the files from.

I was jst guessing because it doesn't seem to be recognizing the USB stick

Give the CD a shot.

tried that didn't work either is there a HP diagnostic site I can go to online to check the computer I tried chat but they just want to refer me to a repair center any other ideas the computer came with 2x2gb of 10600 1333mhz ram not the 1600 because it was refurbished I don't know what its previous life was but it hadn't been converted for network use.no tell tail plug or conectors on the back.

I just don't get your PC!

The memory should be running at 1600 MHz.

The way I gave you to update the BIOS should have been foolproof.

That is the only way I update the BIOS' on my HP business desktop PC's.  Never had a problem.

There is a HP diagnostic program you can download...the last one on the page (HP PC Hardware Diagnostics 3-in-1 USB Key), would be your best option.
