I just recently got a HP Desktop M01-F3324 for early Christmas and I want to upgrade it so I can high end games.

would these upgrades work:

  1. GPU: NVIDIA GTX 1660 Super
  2. PSU: Corsair CV550 550W
  3. Storage: Add a 2TB SATA SSD

And are these upgrades compatible with my desktop? If not, what other recommendations are there?

@The0nly,

Welcome to our HP Community forum!

Your HP Desktop PC M01-F3324 (577L7AA) is not compatible with an industry standard ATX power supply.

Your PC as fitted with an Erica9 motherboard (SSID: 8AB6) is likely fitted with either a 180-watt or a 310-watt power supply (please verify!).

If so, you'll have to upgrade your power supply to a 400-watt power supply with p/n: L04618-800.

You can purchase one of these power supplies online, such as via this top-rated and Trusted eBay Seller for $49: https://www.ebay.com/itm/314624519835?_skw=hp+L04618-800&itmmeta=01JF3HQH1BJ5T1CQF9RP6EYYE0&hash=ite....

Yes, a GTX 1660 Super is an OK mid-range graphics card, and you can purchase a smaller-sized (dual fan) model for $190, such as this Amazon purchase option: https://www.amazon.com/ZER-LON-GeForce-GTX-1660-Super/dp/B0BWMCF6GN/ref=sr_1_1?crid=2EY4O0GYE574H&di....

However, for just $105 more of your hard-earned money, at $295, you can purchase a smaller-sized (dual fan) RTX 4060, which would be far more amenable to play high-end games, such as this purchase option: https://www.amazon.com/PNY-GeForce-Graphics-DisplayPort-Supports/dp/B0CQ8M6BGH/ref=sr_1_11?crid=2OGB....

Seriously, an RTX 4060 performs significantly better than a GTX 1660 Superhttps://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-RTX-4060-vs-Nvidia-GTX-1660S-Super/4150vs4056.

And a yes on the 2TB SATA SSD, such as this purchase example.  Please, whatever you purchase, don't buy some weird-ware PRC knockoff SATA SSD.

Kind Regards,

Thank you for the recommendation on the gpu and the confirmation on the 2TB SATA SSD. But if I were to buy the RTX 4060, would the 400 watt power supply be enough? If not, are there any other recommendations for the psu or am I doomed? If I am, can I do anything to fix it like changing the motherboard?

(I currently have a psu of 180)

@The0nly,

Oh yes, the (high quality) 400-watt power supply I referenced is more than up to the task to power an RTX 4060 in your PC:

Mind you, TechPowerUp's (minimum) 300-watt power supply suggestion is a bit on the meager side in my professional opinion, hence my 400-watt PSU recommendation.

Kind Regards,
