Upgrading CPU. Need a Bios Update or not?

Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi, I have an old PC that I'm looking to upgrade the CPU.  I've heard that I need to make sure the BIOS is updated correctly, and I tried going through the HP Support Assistant and it says there are no updates available.  When I checked the system info it said the BIOS was 80.18 and updated 2014.  How can I make sure that the CPU I purchase works with the current BIOS?

Hello
you have several possibilities
Your motherboard accepts a certain type of processor, you install a processor from the list, no problem!
You try a processor of the same architecture same TDP, in general it does not work, sometimes with update it is ok!
in rare cases it can work without doing anything!
You can also try a compatible model, but with need to update!
all this is quite random
Now, if you don't have another update available, we can't help you if it doesn't work!
in title it is indicated HP Pavilion 500-281
