Hi. I bought a Ryzen 5 2600 which is compatible with this computer's motherboard. I'm looking to upgrade from the current 2400g installed. Here is a link to to the motherboard specs - https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c05939208

I've read that updating the BIOS should be avoided if it's not required. I've also read of some people having problems with upgrading this specific motherboard, so I'm hoping for some advice.

Is updating the BIOS mandatory for this? The current BIOS version is AMI F.15 as of 7/24/2018. Or should the current version work with the new 2600 CPU?

Hi:

If you look at the release notes for all of the previous BIOS updates which can be found under the Revision History section on the latest BIOS update support page at the link below, I do not see that any of the release notes added support for additional or specific processors.

However there are BIOS updates that update the Pinnacle PI versions--the latest one being 1.0.0.C (whatever that means).

I just know that it has something to do with the Pinnacle Ridge processors which includes the Ryzen 5 2600 processor.

But you shouldn't have to update the BIOS to install the processor.

Your PC has a discrete graphics card which is the only other requirement needed for the Ryzen 5 2600 processor.
