dc5850 microtower
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Okay, so I am trying to find a compatable CPU upgrade for an old dc5850 microtower. Can anyone help me find the best upgrade compatable with this system? It has an ms 7500 ver 1 motherboard, 3029h system board. 4 gb of ram. Chipset AMD 780. It currently has the Sempron LE-1300 processor.

@Brandon35 , welcome to the forum.

You are definitely correct in stating that it is an old computer (2008).  Here is the Illustrated Parts and Service Map for the computer.  On Page 2, there is a list of compatible processors.  These are the processors that have been fully tested to assure that they will work with the motherboard.  Any other processor would be questionable.  They may or may not work.  HP has their motherboards made to their specifications.

Thanks for your answer. Do you know if I upgrade to the phenom 9600 would I have to change the fan or heatsink as well?

@Brandon35, I am not an AMD guy so I can't say for certain that the heatsink and fan will work.  The Sempron is 45W and the Phenom is 95W.  This will create considerably more heat.  I suggest that you contact AMD's Tech Support to see what they have to say.

Good luck!
