Hello, I am trying to update the GPU to play MSFS 024 with VR. I have medium skills (replacing RAM).
1- Which GPU can I install (Nvidia 5060-5070)? Or is a lower GPU like 4060 enough for the game and VR?
2- I cannot find the specs online for my model, but I believe I have
- Cooling: Active fan-sink with 4-pin fan control
- External power cable: One 2x3 (6 pin); One 2x4 (8 pin)
- 32 RAM
- Intel Core i9 9900K
- 750 wattage

Welcome to our HP Community forum!
Outstanding -right up my (gaming) alley!
OK, according to the specs, your OMEN by HP 875-1000 Obelisk Desktop PC (5MU99AV) as fitted with the Shire motherboard (SSID: 8509) is indeed powered by a 750-watt power supply, and your PC is already upgraded with an i9-9900K processor.
Looking at fellow HP System OMEN by HP Obelisk Desktop 875-1xxx gaming PCs, none of the almost 2,000 Userbenchmark entries showed a single PC fitted with an RTX 50xx graphics card, confirming my concern that the RTX 50xx graphics cards are, as of yet, not compatible with your PC -same story, incidentally, with AMD's RX 90xx GPU family.
This is a BIOS issue, the same as what happened to my HP Pavilion TP01-3003w upgrade project, where an RTX 5070 would not work, no matter what I tried. I upgraded this platform to the hilt -something you would probably appreciate.
Anyways, let's keep this short and sweet.
If you want to play sort of decent VR, an RTX 4060 would be a possible "budget compromise", but not terribly ideal for smooth, immersive VR in MSFS 2024. Heck, meaning, do not go for it.
Next step, and much better VR options, would be a (smaller-sized, dual fan) RTX 4070 Ti model (best of these two options), such as this model, or an RTX 4070 Super, such as this model.
For the best VR experience on your PC (REMEMBER: you get what you pay for!), I would strongly recommend a smaller-sized (dual fan) RTX 4070 Ti Super 16GB GDDR6X, such as this model: MSI RTX 4070 Ti SUPER VENTUS 2X OC Specs | TechPowerUp GPU Database.
How an RTX 4070 Ti Super stacks up (in your scenario):
Advantages / strengths:
Plenty of VR performance headroom — The "Ti Super" class will give you more processing bandwidth, more rendering horsepower, and more VRAM headroom (16 GB) than something like a 4060 or even a vanilla 4070 in many cases. That extra margin helps in more complex sceneries, denser terrain, big airports, cloud effects, etc.
Future-proofing — As MSFS and VR software evolve, having extra GPU headroom is beneficial. You'll be able to push higher graphical settings or more demanding addons without immediately upgrading again.
Good balance with your i9-9900K — Your CPU is still solid. The 4070 Ti Super is powerful, but it's not so gargantuan that it's going to be wildly bottlenecked by your CPU in many VR scenarios; your system is decent enough to let this GPU shine.
Reasonable power draw (relatively) — Whilst more than a 4060, a 4070 Ti Super is not going to demand the kind of power a 4090 or extreme GPU might. So, your 750-watt PSU (assuming it's good quality) likely can handle it with margin to spare.
In short: an RTX 4070 Ti Super is a great "upgrade ceiling" (or at least a very solid target) if all else lines up!
Hope this was helpful.
Kind Regards,

One more thing: the 750-watt power supply (HP p/n: L37964-800) is an HP-branded Cooler Master power supply, equipped with two 8-pin PCIe power cables.
However, you'll have to ascertain that each of these 8-pin PCIe power cables are fed by separate power rails. You can usually tell if they got separate power rails when each of the PCIe power cables are wholly separate power cables originating from the PSU.
Reason I am asking is that cards such as the RTX 4070 Ti Super requires separate power rails for the dual PCIe 8-pin to PCIe 16-pin power adapter cable, which you'll need to power this card.

Hello NonSequitur777,
Thank you for your prompt and complete response. I can tell my question landed at the right place.
I will re-read your post more carefully, and check that the feeding cables are separated before asking you something else related to this project.
Thanks again!

OK, well, I wouldn't go any less than a smaller-sized (dual fan) RTX 3060 Ti, such as this model: ASUS DUAL RTX 3060 Ti V2 MINI Specs | TechPowerUp GPU Database, a better option would be a smaller-sized RTX 3070 such as this model, or better still, a smaller-sized RTX 3070 Ti such as this model.
