I just started using Ubuntu and I realize that I needed a new graphics card. So, I bought a EVGA 670 efx. I get 5 beeps when I boot up and then I get taken to my encryption window. As soon as I enter in my password and hit return I start to get a flashing black and grey screen. The desktop work fine with the old graphics card, but I have an issue booting with the new one. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Wold

You must re-install the older card to do the test mentioned below.
The original GPU was supposed to be an HD 7450. That is circa Jan 2012. UEFI was not used until Sept 2012. Your H8-1414 was released Sept 2012. You need to know what level of Boot Environment you have, so do the test. It is either "BIOS" or "UEFI".
Another problem: Are you installing an EVGA GTX 670 ? It has TWO 6pin PCIE power connectors on the GPU card that would not be supplied with the original stock 300W PSU. In fact, the GTX 670 requires 170W of power. The HD 7450 was only a 19W card, so it was powered by the PCIE slot.
Once you have resolved these problems/concerns:
With the older card installed, make the changes, save the changes, then power down to re-install the GTX 670 card. But there might be a more serious issue.

Greetings,
Welcome back to the forum.
I am not a HP employee.
Your PC has a UEFI BIOS. Try disabling Secure boot and enabling Legacy boot (Link to instructions).
Look at "Secure boot settings for desktop computers" to make this change in the BIOS.
Secure boot enabled will prevent new hardware initialization.
Let me know if this helps.

I tried to doing it way. Which is a great idea, but the thing is when I put the new card is in I don't get the HP logo at boot like I do with the old card. Which this preventing me from going that route. I do get to the the encrption screen, but when I enter my password I get the flashing screen again.

"PS<> I am well aware of your comments on the Ubantu forum 2 weeks ago" WOW, thats cool. I'm still new to all this I didn't know where I should post.
So, It is a UEFI
I finally found the secure boot menu and disable the secure boot and enable the legacy mode. That stopped the beating.
I did upgrade the power supply to a Insignia 550W power supply.
So, I am currently at: I don't get the beeping anymore and I get to the encrption screen, but same thing happens when I go to log in - a flashing screen. I believe that it is currently something in the Ubuntu startup proceedure.

It still benefits the communitty if you would perform the "test" concerning boot environment.
