HP DC 5800 MicroTower
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I want to upgrade this PC’s motherboard, it has a mATX form factor, with a intel core I 2 duo. If it is not possible to get another motherboard for a DC 5800 MicroTower, could I upgrade the CPU, if so which one would be Ideal?

Any help on the matter would appreciated

Hi:

The motherboards are proprietary, you would only be able to install a motherboard from another dc5800 in there.

Below is the link to the dc5800 quickspecs.  The list of supported processors can be found on page 7.

Thanks for the info, one other thing, could I install a SSD into this desktop?

Would I need another power supply for an intel core 2 duo E8400 processor, and how can I check what processor I currently have without taking the PC apart?

I was also wondering if you have any advice on the kind of graphics card I should get for this computer.

You're very welcome.

You would not need a stronger power supply than the 300W one your notebook has now.

Doesn't matter anyway, as those cannot be upgraded either.

SSD...best if your PC has a RAID or AHCI BIOS storage controller setting.   IDE is not that good for SSD's--performance wise.

I suppose you can install one regardless.  I have one in a dc7800 (upscale, model of yours) and it works great.  But mine has the AHCI drive controller setting.

Graphics card...I would get a used but tested and working Dell HD 6450 1 GB graphics card for your model.
