TL;DR: I'm trying to upgrade a computer that probably was not meant to be upgraded. But I'm so close and I just need a little help :). Read Questions at the bottom please!
Can somebody please explain why I need a proprietary power supply for my PC? I got my low spec HP Victus 15L Gaming desktop a couple months ago and have been loving it. (Ryzen 5 5600G, RX 6400, 8GB ddr4, 350w PSU) Upgraded Ram from 8gb to 32GB, added a 2tb ssd, and prepared to upgrade my GPU. I bought an MSI AMD RX 6700XT (supposedly great upgrade from 6400 that came stock) and thru YouTube videos and all the research I did, found I needed a 500w PSU, specifically the HP L05757-800. I ordered it from eBay, (which my friends say I should not do) and when the time came, it fit! But sadly did not have 2x 8-pin connectors which my gpu needs (it only had 1 2+6-pin, and 1 6-pin). I'm sad and returning the PSU, after a little more research (and feeling deceived by YouTuber technitwit), realized I may need a different 500w PSU, the HP L77487-001. This PSU should have the 2x 8-pin connectors my GPU need!
1. Does the HP L77487-001 500w PSU have 2 8-pin connectors?
2. Will the HP L77487-001 power my GPU that recommends a 650w PSU?
3. Why do I need to buy a proprietary HP Power Supply unit in the HP Victus 15L Desktop/TG02?
Bonus: Should I order the HP L77487-001 from eBay? Do you order parts from eBay?

I just checked and the HP L77487-001 500w has:
1x 7 Pin
2x PCI-Express - 6+2 Pin
3x 4 Pin
I do not know if it is compatible with the proprietary motherboard in the Invictus 15L.

You need a proprietary PSU because the motherboard has HP proprietary connectors and not the standard ATX type.
If you build up your own DIY PC system from scratch, you do not have that limitation. I always do that and purchase a motherboard that accepts a ATX standard PSU.
If you order and try the HP L77487-001 500w PSU in your prebuilt desktop, the risk is all yours.
If you do go ahead, please let us know how it worked ut for your system.
There may be an adapter available for the HP L05757-800 PCIe power connectors that will provide 2x PCI-Express - 6+2 Pin.
There are splitter adapter cables available.
https://www.amazon.com/COMeap-Express-Adapter-Braided-Y-Splitter/dp/B072JR4H3N/ref=asc_df_B072JR4H3N...
The splitter adapter plugs into the single PCI-Express - 6+2 Pin plug that comes with the HP L05757-800.
I almost forgot.
Yes, I do order from eBay with confidence. It isn't like the old days with all of the risk then. eBay holds the sellers feet to the fire if they do not behave.
eBay guarantees you get what you ordered or you get your money back.
