Hello,

At my company, we have a HP ENVY Desktop - TE01-1050 that currently has a 400w PSU and an RTX 2060 6gb.

For a specific piece of software, we require a new GPU with at least 16gb VRAM. It is suggested that we get a more powerful PSU for this, closer to 550w. The GPU will be working hard as it is needed for a heavy AI software.

What model PSU could we purchase that would be compatible in this case?

Thank you.

Greetings @mdsmax

My pleasure.

I missed the 16 GB Nvidia A4000 single slot card at 9.5 inches. I was looking at higher GPU specifications due to the AI workload.

Tech Powerup indicates a 300 watt PSU for the A4000.

The PSU in the TE01 is proprietary. So you can't do a standard ATX PSU.

I think NonSequitur777 can verify if the 650 watt PSU will work with the TE01 case and MB. I'm not sure.

I don't think the Quadro cards I referenced will fit in the TE01 case. The 4070 Ti Super is a definite no go.

Thanks for the additional input @NonSequitur777.

Greetings @mdsmax

Welcome to the HP Forum.

The TE01 chassis has some limitations which may adversely affect doing a 16 GB VRAM graphics card.

The case dimensions limit graphics cards to dual slot at about 10 inches. Check the TE01's dimensions.

An Asus Nvidia 4070 TI Super 16 GB is 10.5 inches at about 2.5 slots.

An Nvidia Quadro RTX 5000 is a dual slot card at 10.5 inches. The Quadro RTX 6000 has 24 GB RAM with similar dimensions.

A HP PSU at 500 watts is available at eBay, part number L05757-800.

A HP 650 watt PSU may also work (I can't verify compatibility) with the TE01 case and MB. Part number L36049-003 /L57253-003.

The 650 watt PSU is also available at eBay.

I don't see any other options. Maybe a different Forum member can provide additional GPU upgrade options.

Hi @Bill_To,

Thank you for the reply. I am mostly concerned with the PSU choice, making sure I can buy something compatible. Is it a proprietary design? As in the form factor and the connectors? Or are the connectors standard?

Thank you for the GPU recommendations as well, though. I was looking at the Nvidia A4000 as it is single slot and has 16gb but I will look at the ones you mentioned as well.

@Bill_To,

Perhaps the OP will consider one of the smaller-sized (dual fan) RTX 4070 Ti 16GB, such as this one: ASUS DUAL RTX 4060 Ti OC 16 GB Specs | TechPowerUp GPU Database.

This graphics card requires the 500-watt (p/n: L05757-800) power supply upgrade.

Kind Regards,

@Bill_To,

Yes, the 650-watt power supply I used in my HP Pavilion TP01-3003W upgrade build is compatible with the OP's desktop.

I thought so.

I can't keep track of the data floating around in my brain! 🤣

Thanks very much to both of you  @Bill_To  and @NonSequitur777.

I am currently double checking with the developers of the software requiring the GPU upgrade to see if the A4000 is suitable. If so, it looks like it would be fine, power consumption-wise. For some reason, I had understood it was more power hungry. We use them in quite a few machines around the building, but for other purposes.

If that doesn't pan out, it will probably make more sense for me to just put in for a brand new build as I like easy upgrading...

Thanks again,

Max
