HP Z420 Workstation
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I currently have 16Gb of RAM in my workstation - 4 slots of 4Gb 1600. To upgrade it to 32Gb, can I 'simply' get another 4 slots of 4Gb (assuming I have 8 slots - I've not opened the case to check but I believe this workstation has them?) or do I need to remove the ones I've got to replace with 4 slots of 8Gb instead?

Also I've been spending time trying to find out if I can upgrade my current Intel Xeon E5 1620 3.6GHz processor but it seems E5 is the best this workstation supports. Am I right please? I was hoping it would support E7 or even E9 as there are now some games I'd like to play which need the higher speed processors. I know I could buy another PC which already has these speeds but just asking the question first.

Thanks a lot. Nick

Thank you for the reply/advice. Seems I was right about the RAM and that E5 is the highest/best that can be achieved with this desktop. Oh well, never mind. Guess it's either forget the games that won't run or buy an i7 or i9 PC. Don't much care for either option but that's my problem not yours. 🙂

Thank you again. Nick
