I have a new Envy Desktop. It's a 64-bit system. It comes with 12 GB
DDR4-2933 SDRAM. Supposedly, that includes 4 GB integrated and and additional 8 GB SDRAM. Here are the specs per HP:
-------------
Dual channel memory architecture (One DIMM per channel)
Two DDR4 DIMM (288-pin) sockets
Supports up to PC4-23400 (DDR4-2933)
Supports 4 GB and 8 GB DDR4 UDIMMs
Supports up to 4 GB on 32-bit systems
NOTE:
32-bit systems cannot address a full 4.0 GB of memory.
Supports up to 32 GB (unbuffered) with two 16 GB DIMMs on 64-bit systems
NOTE:
Maximum memory shown reflects the capability of the hardware and can be limited further in the operating system.
--------------------------
Anyway, I wanted more RAM. I couldn't find 2x16 GB in the right specs. So I bought 2x8
GB, Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro,
When I opened up the computer, I expected to find 1 8GB set of RAM and 1 empty slot. Instead, I found 2 sets of RAM in the 2 288-pin slots.
Are those RAMs in reality 4 GB each? Can I simply replace them with the two 8 GB sets that a bought from Corsair, to get a total of 20GB RAM?
What, if any, other considerations are at play with such a swap? Do I have to do anything to the BIOS? If so, what?
Thank you for any advice.

Its specs
https://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c07570307
It has 12 GB DDR4-2933 MHz RAM (1 x 4 GB, 1 x 8 GB) that means one slot has 4GB and 1 slot has 8GB, no such 4 GB integrated. I know many notebooks have on-board RAM but have not heard of any Desktop has on-board RAM'

No, as mentioned above, one slot has 4GB and one slot has 8GB. You can replace 4GB with new 8GB to have total 16GB, given new RAM is compatible.
Hope this makes sense.
Regards.
