I'm looking to upgrade the Ram on this PC since it seems to be very slow, it has 4GB of ram currently and states that it has 2 slots, could you advice on what would be the proper way to upgrade to hopefully 16GB

You're very welcome.
This would be a compatible 8 GB memory chip for your model PC.
I selected the DDR4-3200 speed because it is cheaper than the DDR4-2666 memory, and it will work just as well.
It will automatically bridge to the fastest speed your PC's processor can run the memory at.

For a SSD, you have two options...
You can replace the mechanical hard drive with a 2.5" solid state drive. I recommend this model for a 2.5" SSD.
Unfortunately, i don't know what size hard drive HP installed in your PC...it would be either a standard desktop 3.5" drive, or a 2.5" notebook drive. I looked up the parts list and it did not provide any details regarding the hard drive size.
If it is a 3.5" drive, then you would also need to install a 3.5" to 2.5" adapter so the 2.5" SSD will mount securely.
I think a better option would be to install a M.2 NVMe SSD, which would provide 3x to 5x faster read write speeds than a SATA SSD.
I recommend this model for that purpose.

Hi:
According to the memory upgrade specs for your notebook, you could install as much as 2 x 16 GB of DDR4-2666 memory.
That info is found under the Motherboard specifications link.

There is a little bit of conflicting info. Part of the specifications indicate the PC supports 2, 4, and 8 GB memory chips, but then it goes on to indicate that 32 GB of memory is supported with 2 x 16 GB memory chips.
Here is the link to the service guide to help you take the PC apart to upgrade the memory.
