My model # is a HP 580- 23w and I'm looking to up grade my Ram from 8GB (2-4GB sticks) to 16GB. My question is do I have to buy 2- 8GB sticks and use as a pair or can I just buy 1 16GB stick of memory and us only 1 bay? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

HP Pavilion Power 580-023w Desktop PC Product Specifications
- Amount: 8 GB
- Speed: PC4-19200 MB/s
- Type: DDR4-2400
then fine you have already checked, because here they do not say the number of modules
motherboard specifications, Odense2-K
- Dual channel (one DIMM per channel) memory architecture
- Two DDR4 UDIMM (288-pin) sockets
- Supports PC4-19200 (DDR4-2400)
- Supports 4 GB and 8 GB UDIMMs
- Supports up to 4 GB on 32-bit systems
note:
32-bit systems cannot address a full 4.0 GB of memory. - Supports up to 16 GB (unbuffered) on 64-bit computers
as you can see it says 16gb
and only with 2 * 8gb
This is what is recommended, tested, validated by hp ..
in rare cases, more than what is mentioned can be installed
But 16gb is enough for many users
if not, you can check with the site, Welcome to Crucial USA
but even if they offer something else it doesn't always mean it's ok, it does mention it
* Do not exceed the amount of memory recommended by the manufacturer.
