HP Z240 Tower Base Model Workstation

I have a Z240 Tower Workstation with a 400W power supply. It is possible to upgrade to a more powerful PSU & if so what possible units? I have a Mediasonic 4 drive external pro box connected that continues to disconnect. I'm hoping that a larger PSU will correct my disconnect problems.

@Iloveco3,

Welcome to our HP Community forum!

Yes, you can very easily upgrade your HP proprietary power supply with any industry standard 24-pin ATX power supply by using a specific (HP Z240 compatible) ATX power supply adapter cable, such as this quality Amazon purchase option: Amazon.com: COMeap 24 pin to 6 pin Adapter HP ATX Power Cable Compatible with Z200 Z210 Z220 Z230 Z2....

Installation is super straightforward: connect your future ATX power supply's 24-pin power cable with the aforementioned power adapter cable, the power adapter's white connector plugs into your "P2" power connector, and the power adapter's black 6-pin connector plugs into your motherboard's white ("PWR") connector.  Then split one of your ATX power supply's 8-pin CPU power cables into two 4-pin connectors: one of them will fit in your motherboard's white 4-pin "CPU_PWR" power connector, like so:

Obviously, use the ATX 8-pin (6+2-pin) power cable(s) to power your graphics card.

Works like a charm, success guaranteed -at least in my experience.

Make sure that you check the ATX power supply's dimensions (LxWxH) for fit inside your case.

Kind Regards,

Thank you NonSequitur777. I was wondering how I could connect to the 4 pin on the motherboard.
