Hello everyone!

  I know its 2025 and wondering what i am trying to do might be akin to midnight gravedigging but i happen to inherit a

  Z620 with the below config.motherboard.jpgShareX_FrD5JFGn0G.png I checked the bios block date and its 12/24/2011,

I need advices on max power cpu that i can fit in it(i think it has to be a V1 ?) Looking for a pair of used E5-2690 atm.

And also for graphics card looking for an used Quadro P2000 as i do some 3d animation rendering using Houdini.

I know i would need a 6 to 8 pin adapter for anything newer. I did my homework before posting.

All suggestions are much appreciated.

@sskan,

The Nvidia RTX 4000 is a very capable card: it is designed for professional applications such as 3D modeling, CAD, and rendering.

You want better?  -Look no further than the Nvidia RTX A6000 48GB.  Other options to consider: the Nvidia Quadro RTX 6000 24GBNvidia A40 PCIe 48GB, Nvidia RTX A4000 16GB, or the Nvidia RTX A5000 24GB.

Kind Regards,

@sskan,

Welcome to our HP Community forum!

Very good questions!

Just started my latest HP upgrade project, an HP Z420 Workstation -which is directly related to your HP Z620 Workstation.

Since I already did quite a bit of research on our HP Zx20 Workstation platform, I would strongly recommend either the E5-1660 v2 (6-Cores, 12-Threads, 3.70 GHz up to 4.00 GHz, 130-watt TDP) or the Xeon E5-1680 v2 (8-Cores, 16-Threads, 3.00 GHz up to 3.90 GHz, 130-watt TDP) -specifically if gaming is your main focus.  If gaming isn't your goal, consider the Xeon E5-2697 v2 (12-Cores, 24-Threads, 2.70 GHz up to 3.50 GHz, 130-watt TDP).

And yes, the "v2" Xeon processors are compatible with your PC: https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&ved=2ahUKEwjS9M6EvOyMAxV2JUQIHWA2BhoQ....

Second, your July 2013 BIOS version is old. The most recent BIOS version is: 03.96 Rev.A, released on Dec 13th, 2019: https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/hp-z620-workstation/5225037.

I would recommend a Nvidia Quadro RTX 4000 8GB (160-watt TDP -needs one 8-pin PCIe power cable), which provides much better rendering/animation capabilities and performance than the Nvidia Quadro P2000 5GB (75-watt TDP): UserBenchmark: Nvidia Quadro P2000 vs RTX 4000.

Thanks a lot for your kind reply. Your suggestions are more than I had hoped for.

So I would be needing 2 cpu as I have a riser fitted in. .

IWon't be playing games so  Xeon E5-2697 v2 is preferred . For the GPU , do we have more choice? Provided they are compatible.I would be looking for them on the GB market place.

 I will stick to your recommendations. Rtx 4000 would do just fine being within the budget.

Thank you for your time and insights.Really appreciated.
