Thank you for noticing my call for help. Hp support has yet to resolve why I cannot make new posts.

Yes I just got a refurbished elitedesk 800 g5 sff with i9-9700 and 16bg ram. 2 sticks.

It has a 2.5 inch ssd 480gb. With win 11 installed. The cd drive is still there.

I really liked how u went into detail about all your mods for g3 g4 g5.

I have many questions to ask you.

I9-9700 vs i9-9700k vs i9-9900kf. Is an upgrade really make practical,difference in gaming?

I want to buy the LP 4060 so I would need to upgrade my powersupply.

My cpu cooling is the stock radial cooler under a shroud.  Not sure if I need to upgrade my cooler.

I have a 600mbps WiFi dongle and am using a displayport to admit adapter.

The pc is used for a media center for my living room tv and possibly to play games too.

Any advice you could give me.

@Avartar,

Glad to be able to assist!

1.) Does upgrading your i7-9700 makes a substantial difference in gaming? The honest answer is, no, not really.  Unless you are talking about the i9-9900KS (which happens to be also compatible with your platform), then it does make a difference. However, I would advise against it since this processor is expensive, has a far higher TDP (127-watt), and because of it creates substantially more heat which mandates a heatsink upgrade and the installation of additional cooling fans to cool things down. Don't misunderstand me, if you are nerdy enough and money is a secondary concern to you, it would be doable as I showed in my upgrade thread.

2.) Oh, yes: a Low-Profile RTX 4060 is definitely the graphics card I would recommend, such as this model: ASUS RTX 4060 Low Profile BRK OC Specs | TechPowerUp GPU Database.  I would strongly recommend at least the 400-watt power supply upgrade with part number: 942332-001.

3.) I wouldn't worry about upgrading your CPU heatsink, unless you find out that your processor is routinely heating up beyond 85° C.

thank you for giving the part number for the Power supply. I live in singapore and we have access to Taobao, a chinese shopping platform. i found these two units. it states its 500 watt supply. are these compatible with the HP 800 G5 SFF?

Link .

if you cant see the link heres some pics from the website i found. they offer 3 months warranty. (edit - i found another supplier they list HP power supplies for 500w 550w and 650w.. link here. i have not yet decided if i want to upgrade my cpu to the i9-9900KS.

1. First i think i want to upgrade the power supply.

2. Next, i want to purchase the 4060 and install that in.

3. Then i want to increase ventilation into the case and exhaust out of the case. i am trying to get some help from someone to 3d print some intake and exhausts at the back of the case so that I can attach 120mm fans as intake and exhaust at the rear.

4.  Lastly, is the stock round cooler and the exhaust shroud inside the pc effective for an i7-9700 at full load?  do i need to upgrade that 80mm fan inside that round cooler to something more powerful? like this  link? or change the thermal paste to grizzly kyronaut liquid metal? (i may have some lying around).

5. As I'm asking this, i realise there are only 2 fan connectors. one is pwm connected to the fan on the round cooler, and there is an unused one nearby there, not sure if its pwm or not.

What are the wattage ratings for these pwm fan connectors. whats the max watt i can load these fan connectors with? 1Amp?

seperately, i noted that you were on the search for CPU coolers that met the height of the case yet can cool 127watts or more. i found a couple. im pasting them here for you to take a look. its off the taobao website.

Link 240w cooler

Link 135w cooler

Link. hp z2 g4 g5 125w cooler

Link HP original fan part number 810281-002

do look through and share your thoughts and ideas., using these on the g5, or these with changed fans.

@Avartar,

Yes, the 500-watt power supply you referenced should work/is compatible with the HP EliteDesk 800 G3/4/5 platforms.

@Avartar,

Your stock CPU/fan combo cooler is sufficient to run an i7-9700, which only got a 65-watt TDP.

Your PWM fan connectors are rated for 1.0A (12W), but I have gone beyond that without encountering issues -but it would be something HP would strongly discourage.

PXL_20220916_143400941.jpg.c67459b5578b5648d74d37455fba890f.jpgdownload.pngok i got a brand new pwm fan and  i tried to plug it into the socket chafan2 but it doesnt go in. theres a plastic protector there that isnt aligned to the plastic protector on my pwm fan socket. apparently the plastic slot of the motherboard ch2 fan connector is on pin 2 and 3 bt on the pwm its  pin 1 and 3 like this image. i tried forcing it in to see if the fan works but it doesnt. what can i do? i even tried touch connecting the 4 pins both ways using the side of the fan connector that has exposed metal pin plates on one side  to the motherboard fan connector but the fan still doesnt turn.  i found samples of the two connectors they dont match.
