HP Pavilion Gaming Desktop PC TG01-2000i (1K4J0AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

I want to upgrade my memory from 8gb (2x4) to 16gb (2x8), but am not sure what determines if the products I am looking at are compatible or for some reason less than ideal. I was thinking of getting one of the following alternatives:
-  Kingston Fury Beast 2x8GB RGB, DDR4, 3200MHz (PC4-25600)  CL16 (16-20-20)
-  Corsair Vengeance LPX Black 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 / CL16 / 3200 MHz / DDR4 SDRAMPC4-25600

If they are both compatible, which one is the best choice and why? And if they are not, what would you recommend I get instead?

Some clarification on this would be much appreciated.

@NarcoPolo,

Your Stark motherboard supports up to 2 x 16GB PC4-23400 (DDR4-2933) DIMM RAM.

That means that neither of the two RAM choices you mentioned would ever be able to run at 3200 MHz, at most 2933 MHz.

Not only that, but the experience of many HP users -and that would include yours truly, has shown that unless you purchase the EXACT DDRx-xxxx RAM for your specific HP gaming desktop specified and offered through HP, non-HP RAM -no matter how upscale it may be, frequently runs slower than the theoretical MOBO RAM speed.  In your case, perhaps you get stuck at 2400 MHz max...

Personally, I have had excellent RAM performance with Kingston Fury or Hyper Gaming RAM.  In my experience, the most gaming-limiting performance factor would be your GPU -RAM less so.

Thank you for your reply!

I went with the -  Kingston Fury Beast 2x8GB RGB, DDR4, 3200MHz (PC4-25600)  CL16 (16-20-20) option and well, what can I say? Also bougt a new cpu cooler and two new fans because I'd very much like to use the computer for some time and not have it die after a year because of running near critical temperatures all day long.

So what does HP think about this? Well, my new 16GB ram is now running at 2133 mhz (!), but if I switch back to 8GB it goes back to 3200 mhz...... This with all relevant BIOS settings locked/removed so that there is no way to fix this..
As for the new heatsink/Cpu-cooler - well ofc they can't be selling computers that last a while and perform well over time, then it would take longer before I need to buy a new computer and they would simply sell less frequently.
The heatsink I bought is impossible to install since you need to attach it with screws put in from underneath the motherboard. Which of course is not possible as its all bolted, you can only open one side of the chassi and that is the opposite one in this case. And by figuring all this out, I have also engaged in a process that rid me of all warranty etc.

Well played HP! Who wants good customer relations and service anyway? Its not like its good for business or anything......
