HP Desktop PC M01-F0000a (6HR54AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

I currently have 8G of RAM and looking to upgrade to 32G or at the least 16G. I was wondering how many slots are inside and how much RAM would be compatible with my HP Desktop. Are there certain. Any recommendations on the best places (online/in-store) to purchase RAM.  Kind of a newbie when it comes to this. My computer gets laggy when i have a few applications running and I could use the RAM increase.

@hatz85 -- is this your computer: HP Desktop PC M01-F0000a (6HR54AV) Product Specifications | HP® Customer Support

On that page, the hyperlink to the motherboard specifications does not work.  Sigh.

It does report that your computer originally was shipped with 4 GB of RAM, even though you say that it now has 8 GB.

Download, install, and run the free version of the SPECCY software.

It will show the number of sockets for RAM, and the exact characteristics of your current stick(s) of RAM.

Also, access:  www.crucial.com and enter the details about your computer, to get information on the maximum amount of RAM that your motherboard supports, and which sticks of RAM (made by Crucial) will be compatible with your motherboard.

But, before you spend any money, open the Windows "Task Manager", and switch to its "Performance" tab.

One graph will show how much of your 8 GB of RAM is currently being used.

If your computer is using less than 4 GB, then buying additional RAM, that also will be unused, is a waste of your money.
