OMEN by HP 25L Gaming Desktop PC GT15-2000i RCTO Base Model
Microsoft Windows 11

My OMEN currently has 16m of memory. I would like to upgrade it to its max. I believe it is 64. How difficult is it to do on my own. Thanks

@sjmack1957,

Welcome to our HP Community forum!

Great question -and awesome that you’re thinking about upgrading your OMEN GT15-2000i. RAM upgrades are one of the best ways to give your system a performance boost, especially for gaming and multitasking.

Specs for your OMEN 25L GT15-2xxx:

  • Motherboard: ArcticL (SSID: 8B1D)

  • Memory support: Up to 128GB DDR4-5200 MHz (non-ECC, unbuffered)

  • Slots: 4 DIMM slots

  • Max per slot: 32GB

What you likely have now:

Your OMEN came with 16GB, likely as either:

  • 2×8GB in dual-channel mode
    → 2 slots used, 2 free

  • 1×16GB in single-channel mode
    → 1 slot used, 3 free

You can confirm this by:

  • Opening Task ManagerPerformance tab → Memory
    → Look for “Slots used.”

  • Or run CPU-Z (a useful freeware program) and check the “SPD” tab to see which slots are populated.

Is it hard to upgrade?

Not at all—RAM is one of the easiest upgrades you can do. Here’s the simple process:

  1. Shut down the PC and unplug it.

  2. Remove the side panel (press button or remove screws depending on your case).

  3. Touch a metal part of the case to discharge static.

  4. Locate the RAM slots (next to the CPU).

  5. If adding RAM: install the new stick(s) into empty slots.
If replacing: press the clips, remove old sticks, and insert new RAM.

  6. Power back on—the system auto-detects the upgrade!

What RAM to buy:

  • Type: DDR4-5200 MHz, 1.2V, unbuffered, non-ECC

  • Matched kits (4×16GB or 2×32GB) are ideal for best performance.

  • Top reliable brands: Crucial or Kingston.

If your goal is 64GB:

  • I would recommend 2×32GB -as this would leave room for future upgrades.  It is highly unlikely that you'll need a total of 128GB of RAM or would see a meaningful performance increase compared with 64GB of RAM.

  • Looking at OMEN by HP 25L Gaming Desktop GT15-2xxx platforms here, this non-HP branded Kingston Fury RAM option stood out: https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/69650823.  The User was able to get this 4800 MHz RAM to run at 4400 MHz.  I was unable to find the 4800 MHz KF RAM, but this very similar 5200 MHz 2x32GB KF RAM purchase option via Newegg ($150) was the best purchase option I was able to locate for you.

Bonus Tip:

Using all 4 RAM slots gives a tiny boost in bandwidth with quad-rank dual channel, but the difference from 2 sticks is minor unless you're running very memory-heavy workloads. I would not recommend mixing different RAM: you should 'stick' with same brand, model, capacity and speed.

Kind Regards,
