Hi, trying to get some help with upgrading, I've tried looking online, but nothing I can find related to my issue.

I have an HP Omen 800-p1xx

Intel Core i7-8700

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 3GB

16 GB RAM

Mobo - HP 8437

It's been working great, the last few years Ive had it, still plays games well. But I feel the graphics card is probably going to need replacing, as I can notice small things on newer games.

I want to upgrade graphics and ram. As I understand it, the motherboard probably needs replacing as well.

Any suggestions/recommendations for motherboards that will fit this system and best graphics I should get to last a few years.

Thanks in advance

@WesternBulldog,

Welcome to our HP User Forum!

Your HP Omen 800-p1xx rig has plenty of life left, so replacing the motherboard isn't necessarily what I would focus on if you want to boost your overall gaming performance.  Your motherboard is a Tampa2 motherboard (SSID: 8437), which is highly upgradeable.

Here are some upgrade suggestions:

1.) Upgrade to an i7-8700K -here are purchase options via eBay: i7-8700k for sale | eBay.

2.) In order to upgrade to a high(er) end graphics card, you'll also need to upgrade you power supply. For this, I need to know what GPU you are thinking of and what your budget is -say an RTX 3060 or an RTX 3060 Ti, for example.  If an RTX 3060/Ti is within your budget, a 500-watt ATX power supply will suffice. Reason I mention these particular graphics cards, is because they are currently reasonably priced via eBay: rtx 3060 for sale | eBay.

3.) Replace your 2 x 8GB RAM with 2 x 16GB dual rank DDR4 PC4-25600, 3200 MHz, Non-ECC, Unbuffered, DIMM (UDIMM), 288-pin RAM modules.  The RAM in your PC can run at 2666 MHz.  Here is an Amazon purchase option: Timetec 32GB KIT(2x16GB) DDR4 3200MHz (or 2933MHz or 2666MHz) PC4-25600 CL22 1.2V Non-ECC Unbuffered....

4.) For speed and performance, make sure that your primary (boot) drive is an M.2 NVMe SSD, like this HP OMEN by HP Desktop PC 880-p1xx User demonstrated: HP OMEN by HP Desktop PC 880-p1xx Performance Results - UserBenchmark.

And there you go.  Thusly upgraded, your Gaming Desktop will not disappoint.

Hope this was helpful.

Kind Regards,
