I have 2 HP laptops. I want to take the existing ssd from one and either a) add it to the other laptop to have 2x SSDs running, or b) swap the SSDs from one laptop to the other.  (Reason is that the first laptop has a touch screen which is essential for me). I'm happy to swap the SSDs if that's the best course. The first is model x360 Convertible 14-ba0xx with 128GB SSD, the second is model 14-ck0xxx with 256GB SSD. I don't need 2x laptops or even a lot of fast storage but definitely need more than 128gb and definitely a touch screen.

Is this the right approach? What kit do I need to add the second ssd? Can I just swap the ssds onto existing slots without the use of the any additional kit?

ps if I just bought a new m2 ssd to swap out the 128gb unit, what would be the exact kind of unit I would be buying?

HP Recommended

In reply, the best bet is to purchase a larger SSD to replace the 128GB unit.  The model numbers posted are not complete as the "xxx"'s are actual numbers for the model to be complete.

Hi there, thanks for the quick reply.

I did know the xxx were placeholders but didn't think that that level of granular detail was necessary. Mea culpa! 😊

The model number of the 360 laptop is 14-ba055sa and of the other laptop is 14-ck0521sa. The only crucial internal ssd options shown are SATA 2.5" format (add ons) rather than M.2 type replacements?

So how do I find out exactly what module format is required? Would this fit?

Crucial P2 1TB 3D NAND NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD - £56.50 / Crucial P3 1TB PCIe NVMe M.2 2280 SSD 1TB

HP Recommended

I missed out rhe second price - £59.44.

So which of the two options would work with my x360 laptop?

Hi,

The x360 14-ba055sa supports M2 SATA3 SSDs (so not PCIe NVMe SSDs such as the ones you listed from Crucial.

Example

https://www.amazon.com/Blue-NAND-500GB-SSD-WDS500G2B0B/dp/B09ZYQG5C1/ref=sr_1_4?crid=BC7IYYNZI72J&ke...

Service manual

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c06172090.pdf

The 14-ck0521sa supports M2 PCIe NVMe SSDs so the ones you listed from Crucial should work (there is no limit to capacity)

Hope it helps,

David

Hi again, I ran the Crucial scan, as was suggested. Then I checked again and the Crucial website lists only 2.5" format ssd drives for the HP x360 model.

https://www.crucial.com/compatible-upgrade-for/hp---compaq/pavilion-x360-14-ba055sa

I'm much confused now : do I ignore the Crucial scan and go with the WD module suggested? Do you mind giving me a link where I can copy the exact spec of the ssd module I need, rather than give me one example of the type I need? If that makes any kind of sense, cos I am confused right now.

I really do appreciate the time taken to nurse me through this selection so many thanks for that

Sorry, I've just reread the last suggestion. Is the spec of

M2 SATA3 SSDs

all I need to use to select an sdd for the Pavilion x360 14-ba055sa?

Cheers

HP Recommended

Yes.  The existing M.2 drive is a SATA3 SSD and as @iomare  noted it will not accept the PCIe NVMe SSDs.
