Microsoft Windows 11

Hi, I've got a Victus by HP 15L Gaming Desktop TG02-0010ns P/N 634S0EA#ABE with a Ryzen 7 5700G cpu and an Erica8 89D8 motherboard.
I need to know wether is possible to upgrade the cpu. I've found this document https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c08107471 that states that the highest cpu compatible with the motherboard is the Ryzen 7 5700G that it already has. Now, I wonder wether the Ryzen 7 5800X or 5800X3D would be compatible. Some time ago I read somewhere that they should with a BIOS update. Does anybody have any clue?

Regards.

Hi @t0lstoy

HP validated three "G" CPUs using the factory BIOS. There is a BIOS update for this MB but the "Fixes" section does not mention additional CPU support. Generally, HP does not add additional CPU support to consumer MBs.

The AM4 CPU socket in your MB would support other 5000 series CPUs.

I can only guess you may have a problem using a 5800X or a 5800X3D with this MB without the required BIOS update to add additional CPU support.

I have a Victus with Ryzen 5 5600G and just replaced it with the Ryzen 7 5600X which should improve general CPU Power but also hopefully will enable PCI4 and full speed for the PCIe x16 (which is running at half speed) and PCIe NVME SSD which I upgraded and is running at less than half speed (1500 MB/s of possible 3000 MB/s).

I just changes the CPU (both have TPU 65W) , the Victus 15L will power up but not bringing any booting/BIOS screen.
So it is not working !

The 5700X has no internal GPU, but anyhow it is disabled because I have a Geforce 3060 Ti and I use the DP Port of the graphics card.

-> Any reason why HP is blocking CPU upgrades?
-> Why is HP promoting the PC with PCIe 4.0 BUT the processor is not supporting it ? The GPU and SSD are all running at PCIe 3.0

I don't think that HP will release a BIOS update enabling CPU upgrades, why would they bother to? Besides there's another issue: this document claims an up to 65 W TDP  while the 7 5800X and 5800X3D have a 105 W TDP. I don't know what it exactly means since I'm not an engineer, though.

I haven't ever seen such an upgrade-unfriendly desktop PC, especially cpuwise. It's disappointing.

The only solution I see it's a cpu overclocking by adding on a water cooling AIO kit.

5700X is the same cpu as mine but without integrated graphics. It should be compatible if you have the same MB as I do. I don't get why HP doesn't allow it to work. It seems they are antiupgrade.

By mentioning the 5800X and 5800X3D in my earlier reply I was referring to my opening query. I know the 5700X has 65 W TDP.

Matt567 if you want a cpu upgrade, return to the store or sell on your 5700X and buy instead a Ryzen 7 5700G that's fully compatible with your Victus PC. It's the same cpu as my Victus 15L PC's.

After searching on AMD website for chipset  B550A  it's gen 3 so for my point of view HP and AMD are making all they can for this system to be only gen 3. May ssd is working on gen 3 with 2 lanes i dont know why it isn't working on 4 lanes i get only 1500 mb/s o a ssd that with 4 lanes would work at 3000 mb/s
