Hi all!,

My son has a Victus 15L Gaming Desktop TG02 running an AMD Ryzen 5 5600 that he has enjoyed and has been a great computer.  Some of the games he runs have been lagging a bit, and after upgrading all relevant drivers I figured I'd double the RAM to see if that would help (comes with 2x8GB sticks). So I purchased 2x Gigastone DDR4 16GB 3200 sticks to replace the originals.  I removed the old, cleaned the slots, installed the new and fired the rig up (I've replaced RAM before on admittedly much older units, but the process was the same and went smoothly enough).  The built in LED lights on the sticks kicked on immediately, computer fired up and ran just fine.  But pulling up Task Manager I noticed that only 1 of 2 RAM slots was being "used".  So I swapped the two sticks and fired it back up to see if that was the issue.  Same thing.  Everything runs, 1 of 2 slots used.  So now I'm a bit stumped.  I know the computer can handle 2x16GB of RAM, these came recommended as a brand that was compatible for this computer, and again the LEDs light up so I know there is power to them, that they are fully seated etc.  I just can't figure out how to get it to recognize the 2nd slot as it were.  Thanks in advance for the help!

Sincerely,

Stumped Dad

Hi @Goose05

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Troubleshooting Steps:

Reseat the RAM:

  • Double-check the RAM installation: Ensure the RAM sticks are fully seated in their respective slots. You should hear a click when they're properly inserted.
  • Try reseating both sticks: Carefully remove and reinsert each RAM stick, making sure they're properly aligned and pushed firmly into the slots.

Clear CMOS:

  • Locate the CMOS battery: It's usually a small, round battery on the motherboard.
  • Remove the battery: Carefully remove the battery using a small screwdriver.
  • Wait a few minutes: Wait for a few minutes to allow the motherboard to discharge.
  • Reinstall the battery: Reinsert the battery correctly.
  • Power on the computer: See if this clears any potential BIOS settings that might be preventing the second RAM slot from being recognized.

Update BIOS:

  • Check for BIOS updates: Visit the HP support website and search for your specific Victus 15L TG02 model. Look for BIOS updates or driver updates that might address RAM compatibility issues.
  • Update BIOS with caution: Updating the BIOS can be risky. If you're not comfortable doing it yourself, consider taking the computer to a qualified technician.

Test RAM Individually:

  • Install one stick at a time: Install each of the new RAM sticks individually in each of the slots. See if the computer recognizes both sticks individually.
  • Test the old RAM: If possible, try reinstalling the original RAM sticks to see if they work correctly. This can help isolate whether the issue is with the new RAM or the motherboard's RAM slots.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
