Hi all, I need to transfer a bunch of old 8mm videotapes to digital before they degrade. I'm using a Sony Digital Camcorder, which will also digitize the older analog 8mm video (I've got analog 8mm, Hi8 8mm, and Digital 8mm tapes to transfer). However, my new HP Pavilion 690-0083W does not have a dedicated video card. What is the best way for me to get those videos transferred? Do I need to add a video card? If so, which kind? Or can I use one of those USB to RCA video capture dongles (although I think that might be analog only transfer, which I don't want). ANY advice appreciated.....thanks!

@Radman01 , welcome to the forum.
According to all of the specifications that I can find for the computer, it lists a NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 1050 Ti graphics card with 4 GB GDDR5 dedicated memory(13)

I suggest that you check inside of the case to see if this is correct.

Hi, and thanks for the reply. I did check the video card and it is the correct one; the only problem is that it has three *outputs* on it, but no *inputs* -- so I'm trying to find the best way to get the videos into the PC, from the camcorder, without losing any quality. Some of these tapes are old and the picture quality wasn't that great to begin with; I just want to get the best capture possible. I don't know if the USB 3.0 inputs on the PC are sufficient for video transfer.
