HP Pavilion HPE h8-1217c Desktop PC
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I have read other posts on this topic, but for my HP Pavilion HPE h8-1217c Desktop PC  Model # QW723AA#ABA I cannot find a video card compatability list.

https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-pavilion-hpe-h8-1200-desktop-pc-series/5187019/model/5192454...

I bought a Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1060 WINDFORCE OC 6G (GV-N1060WF2OC-6GD)and the computer would not boot, I got the HP splash screen and it hung up there would not go any further. It did the same with the PCI power plugged in or not plugged in no difference. I seated it a couple times to be sure it was seated. I have a 600 watt power supply as the original supply failed so power is not the issue. I suspect the card is not compatible and would like to know what card is compatible if any.

Thanks

@grammjr,

As politeness is required, what I must tell you is a bitter pill.

Your unit is circa Jan 2012, and was shipped with the following: 1) WIN 7   2) BIOS level 7.16

The BIOS can not be upgraded to the newer UEFI standard.  Any card above the GTX 670 would be not advised.  Your GTX 1060 is a UEFI card. It will never work.

Not sure what you were trying to accomplish ??   Even "IF" you could find a GTX650, 660, 670 on the used market, there would be a severe performance bottle-neck because of the old I-7 2600 CPU chip.

@Wb2001  Thanks that was the exact information I was looking for and really did not know how to find it.

I was capturing screen video and the PowerDirtector program says my video is slow so was going to add a good card to try to make it better, so looks like I will need a new computer if I want the improvement.

Thaks very much for the good answer, saves me a lot of headaches.

THANKS!!
