Specs: AMD Ryzen 7 5700G with Radeon Graphics max TDP of 65W
32 GB ( 2x 16 gb Micron technology 3200MHz) ram
System board 8906 SMVB
Nvidia Geforce RTX 3060 w/12gb of vram Max TDP of 170W
1 TB SSD NVME
1 TB HDD
400 W HP gold PSU
By my (admittedly probably wrong) calculations the power draw should never exceed 250W
Keep in mind I am playing games at 60 fps at 1080p
I want to upgrade my GPU to a 4060ti w/16gb of vram Max TDP 165W. Possibly a 4070 Max TDP of 200. IDK
I have found a couple GPUs on Amazon that will fit the profile of my case but I'm too scared to purchase a card, and find out I don't have the connectors or enough power to use it safely.
In short, I fully understand how to take apart and put my pc back together, I just don't know what upgrades I can make without damaging my pc. I know what I would like to do, but I understand that reality is rarely so kind. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
I am aware that a 4070 will most likely struggle to fit in my PC case but apparently with some bending in places it could fit.

Welcome to the HP Forum.
The 4070 at around 10.5 inches (267 mm) might not be a good fit unless you can find a SFF card.
The 4060 Ti at about 9.4 inches (240 mm) should work with your case.
I would measure along the PCIe x16 slot to verify.
Your PC's 400 watt power supply (PSU) limits graphics card upgrade options. You would need a six + two pin PSU connector to power either Nvidia graphics card. The 4060 Ti might work with your HP PSU. The 4070 requires a 550 watt PSU.
Your PC can be upgraded to a 500 watt PSU but I can't verify this upgrade will be enough if you can fit a 4070 in your PC's case.
I just did an Asus dual 4070 (in a Fractal case) which requires one eight pin PSU connection to power the card.
