I mainly do CAD programming on an Z420 but want to improve performance.

64 GB ECC RDDR3 / 1066 MHz
Boot Block Date 12/28/2011
Xeon CPU E5-1607 @ 3.00GHz
Cache Size 64KBx4 / 256KBx4 / 1024KBx1
EVGA GeForce GTX 980 Gaming 4GB GDDR5 Video Graphics Card (04G-P4-2980-KR)

Looking at buying on ebay:
HP Z440 Motherboard FMB-1401 w/ E5-1620V4 3.50 GHZ CPU

Is this a good fit and would you recommend other improvements?

Hi @MHGUIDRY 

 

there are processors supported by the Z420 that are more powerful than the one you indicate. although they are different versions, they are 8 core processors.
