Hello!

I have found myself wanting to update my OMEN desktop GPU, but I am unsure what GPUs I can use safely without causing damage to my PC or other compatibility issues.  I would like to note I am still very new to upgrading PC components, but I would love to have the knowledge on hand!

Here are the specs for my PC:

OMEN by HP Obelisk Desktop 875-0014

Motherboard ID : 84FD

Total memory : 32GB

Processor name : Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-8700 CPU @ 3.20GHz

Windows 10 Home (64-bit)

HYPERX FURY DDR4 SDRAM 16GB (x2)

@WispyAtomica,

Welcome to our HP community forum!

According to the specs, your OMEN by HP Obelisk Desktop 875-0014 (4NM65AA) came equipped with a 500-watt power supply and probably with a GTX 1060 3GB graphics card -please verify and report back.

One of the best and best-priced graphics card upgrades would be one of the smaller-sized RTX 4060 8GB models, powered by a single 8-pin PCIe power cable, such as this purchase option under $300 via Amazon.

You can see here what the difference in graphics card performance would mean for you.

Hope this was helpful.

Kind Regards,

Hello!

Yes this PC came with a 500 watt power supply and a GTX 1060 3GB. In my research I was seeing there's an 8 pin option and a 6 pin option for the 1060?

@WispyAtomica,

Your 500-watt power supply is likely equipped with one 6+2-pin and one 6-pin PCIe power cables.

Your question was about upgrading your current graphics card.  A smaller-sized RTX 4060 requires just one 8-pin PCIe power cable and happens to be one if not the best choice to upgrade your GTX 1060 without breaking the bank.
