Hello !

No go on the new ram sticks. The tower runs but I'm getting a blank screen. Even the monitor awakes from sleep

when the tower is powered up, just no image.  I tried powering up several times, no dice.

I tried cleaning the slots & the contacts on the sticks. Tried reseating several

times but no luck. I used the same slots that the original two 2gb sticks came out of. Maybe try the other 2 slots ?

I don't think either both or 1 of the sticks is bad but you never know. They're dated 10/2017.

Do they need to be configured to my tower by pulling the cmos then holding the power button down for a bit

then putting the battery back ?  Just a thought.

Finally I started getting tired so I put the original sticks back in & everything fired right up.

Later I could try testing 1 stick @ a time but I'm not exactly sure how to do it. ( Does just the tower have to power on

& stay on saying the stick is ok ?

Please get back to me when you can & I'll be looking foward to your reply.

Kind regards,

@SL58,

Not to be a party pooper as Schwarzeneggar once said, but to be honest, you should consider returning the 2 x 8GB RAM sticks and go for 4 x 4GB.  This is a pain -trust me, been there, done that, but that is what I would do.

But being the cpu is just dual-channel, only 2 sticks would work, correct ?

What about going with less RAM (8gb) & getting two 4gb sticks ?

@SL58,

Well, not necessarily: why would HP build this motherboard with four RAM slots if you can't utilize all four of them?

Couldn't find any definitive answers to your question, I would do what you suggested: get two 4GB sticks and start from there.

I thought MSI built the motherboard. Could HP have altered it ?

Btw, I'm taking my time w/this as there's no need to rush & I can learn a few things.

Thanks for hanging in there with me !
