Hi all,

Last week I purchased a Victus by HP 15L TG02-1000, with no hard drive, and a 1TB SSD.

https://www.hp.com/us-en/shop/pdp/victus-by-hp-15l-gaming-desktop-tg02-1000-6v9t6av-1

I want to purchase a 10TB or so SATA hard drive, but I'm not a techie, and the "specs" are Greek to me, lol!

The new computer expansion slots are: 2 M.2; 1 PCIe x16; 1 PCIe x1

Chat told me that a new compatible hard drive should be "7200 rpm SATA hdd".

When I shop for a hard drive, I see no PCle mentioned.

Could someone brief me, please?

My budget is around $200, so I have been looking at these three examples on Amazon, but there are so many "versions" of the same "model" Arggghh:

> Seagate BarraCuda Pro 10TB Internal Hard Drive Performance HDD – 3.5 Inch SATA 6 Gb/s 7200 RPM 256MB Cache for Computer Desktop PC, Data Recovery (ST10000DM0004)

> Seagate IronWolf 10Tb NAS Internal Hard Drive HDD – 3.5 Inch SATA 6GB/S 7200 RPM 256MB Cache for Raid Network Attached Storage (ST10000VN0004)

> Toshiba N300 10TB NAS 3.5-Inch Internal Hard Drive - CMR SATA 6 Gb/s 7200 RPM 512 MB Cache - HDWG71AXZSTA

I also see Skyhawk and Exos....???

I started on Amazon, but see that no Seagate manufacturer warranty applies - only short seller warranties, so I moved to looking at Seagate.com.

And... I am assuming that I do not want a "renewed" hard drive... as it seems the life would be shortened, is that right?

Bottom line - will one of the 3 versions above work, or if not, what specifics do I need and/or what do I need to avoid?

Any thoughts and advice would be appreciated.

Thank you!

Hi @nnord,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to assist you.

For your Victus by HP 15L TG02-1000, a SATA hard drive connects via the standard SATA interface, not PCIe. Here's what to look for when shopping for a compatible hard drive:

SATA Interface: Ensure the drive specifies "SATA" (often SATA III, which is backward compatible with earlier SATA versions). PCIe isn't relevant for traditional hard drives.

3.5-Inch Size: Most desktop PCs, including yours, use 3.5-inch drives for hard disks.

RPM and Cache: Look for a drive with 7200 RPM (rotations per minute) for better performance. More cache (e.g., 256 MB or higher) is a plus.

Capacity: A 10TB drive is large but commonly available from brands like Seagate or Western Digital. Look for models such as the Seagate BarraCuda Pro or Western Digital Red Plus.

Before buying:

  • Confirm that your PC has an available SATA data port on the motherboard and a free SATA power connector from the power supply unit (PSU).
  • Ensure the case has physical room for a 3.5-inch drive and mounting screws or a bracket for secure installation.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a great day ahead!
