Nothing at all happens when I switch on my HP Pavilion 500 series (it was left on and died overnight) so I think my power supply has died. I've taken it out and its a Core X Stream OCZ-CXS500W. Doesn't look like I can get a new one of these at all, so what make model options do I have that will just fit in screw in and work please.

Without an exact model number, I can not look-up the specs.
The HP 500 series does utilize an ATX PSU. A Corsair CX500 or 550 would be my best guess for you.
