OMEN by HP Desktop PC - 880-160se CTO
Microsoft Windows 11

I purchased an Omen 880-160se with the latest upgrades back in 2018-2019 as a gaming PC , I thought I was getting the best value for my money, but I couldn't help but notice there were very few options for upgrades that were made available through HP's offered products and services.

I now worry that I may have made a terrible mistake and that -not only does HP no longer support this Desktop series components and software, but that I am now stuck with a PC that is generally incompatible with most newer components such as PSUs, GFX Cards types and series, Fans and the like.

Needless to say, that I am very much inexperienced when it comes to finding out exactly what my PC can or cannot handle.

I recently went hunting through my HP dashboard and came across some spec-related content that showed a short list of what upgrades I can purchase through HP.

As I have implied earlier, I made these adjustments at my time of purchase.

If anyone can help, I need a detailed list of the types of components I could use to upgrade my system, Ideally I'd be looking to be able to play some of the latest PC games without trouble; such as Starfield and similar titles.

to give you all an example;  I was looking up the requirements and found that I met the recommended minimum requirement: Nvidia Geforce GTX 1070 Ti (I have a 1080Ti), but the recommended is Nvidia Geforce RTX 2070.

As a resullt, I constantly experience CTD regardless of any decent setting I use. I'd like to enjoy this game and newer titles without having to worry about these kinds of issues.

Other content from different sites state the other (newer and more expensive )Cards would be recommended for this title but little about the PSU requirements I would need to purchase.

I'd like to avoid having to play catch up with newer components every year and I want my current PC to last as long as possible.

If you lookup the PC model info on HP's website and use the upgrades offered, that would be about whatI have, but please let me know If you need more information.

Here are my current specs:

@AvariceX,

Welcome to our peer-to-peer HP Community Forum!

Your OMEN by HP Desktop PC - 880-160se CTO (2TB61AV) as fitted with an HP Tampa2 motherboard (SSID: 8437) and a 750-watt power supply with p/n: 919937-800 "Power Supply - GNRC, 750W ES ATX Platinum Lyra" -please verify.

Your gaming PC as powered by an i7-8700K should still smoke any game you throw at it with an upgraded graphics card.

Your motherboard is 24-pin ATX-power enabled, meaning, if you have the budget to upgrade, say, to an RTX 3090 for example, you should upgrade your power supply to an 850-watt PSU.

No worries though, there is a lot you can do GPU-upgrade-wise with a 750-watt power supply.

Incidentally, a GTX 1080 Ti happens to be a more powerful graphics card than an RTX 2070.

In any regards, I would recommend an RTX 2080 Ti, RTX 3070, RTX 3070 Ti, RTX 3080, RTX 3080 Ti, RTX 4070, RTX 4070 Ti, or an RTX 4080 in order to see a meaningful gaming improvement.

You should carefully check your upgraded GPU's dimensions (LxWxH) for fit inside your case.  I would recommend a smaller-sized two-fan model.

Hope this was helpful.

Kind Regards,

@AvariceX,

According to the HP System OMEN by HP Desktop PC 880-p1xx UserBenchMark link, and according to the Intel Z370 chipset specs, your gaming PC is apparently also compatible with 9th gen processors:

The i7-9700Khttps://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/49586544, the i7-9700KFi7-9700 and the i7-9700F.
