K3500 keyboard
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

What do the F keys do on the K3500 keyboard when I'm NOT in any particular program, just in Windows in general?  I can't find any info anywhere on what the various icons mean.

Thanks, Banhien, but what I was looking for is the meaning of the Fn icons.  I finally found it by searching for “Win8 Fn keys”.

From the following image

 HP K3500 Wireless Keyboard

I can see it is a standard keyboard. Below are some common uses for function keys in Windows:

  • F1 - Display help screen
  • F2 - Highlight file or folder for renaming
  • F3 - Open search tool
  • Alt+F4 - Close the current window
  • F5 - Refresh the contents of a window or webpage
  • F8 - Boot Windows into Safe Mode by holding F8 during startup

Regards.
